Citroen C5 Aircross is now being produced in Russia – deep localization is planned

Kaluga plant "PSMA Rus" has begun serial production of Citroen C5 Aircross passenger cars. What’s noteworthy is that the cars will be sold under this famous French brand. They did not change the name of the model either - all in order to maintain recognition.


The Automotive Technologies company is responsible for the production of the Citroen C5 Aircross. What is noteworthy is that the company’s management is not afraid of economic sanctions. After all, vehicle kits are supplied from the “eastern partner,” according to them.

It's easy to guess that this is China. Even if the French owners of the brand, the Stellantis company, prohibit the supply of components to Russia, there will be a way out. Automotive Technologies has several workarounds.


Citroen C5 Aircross is gradually being localized. First of all, the car will receive Russian tires, batteries and technical fluids. Then domestic body glazing and other components will appear.

So far, the model is produced with only one engine, but in the future it is planned to expand the engine range. It is quite possible that even a full-fledged hybrid will appear.

The manufacturer emphasizes that this is not just a “screwdriver assembly.” The Citroen C5 Aircross is supplied by various partners. Some are bodies, others are engines, others are components and assemblies. It’s far from a fact that this is so – it’s just reinsurance in case sanctions are imposed.

Citroen C5 Aircross is already produced in a restyled form. Let us remind you that the update was in 2022, but in Russia they did not have time to launch such a modification.

Interestingly, the “Russian” Citroen C5 Aircross is completely Russified. This hints that the mysterious “Eastern partners” approached cooperation with the utmost seriousness. It is possible that the Stellantis concern is even aware of this, because they did not want to leave the Russian market at one time.


The manufacturer claims the crossover to be a representative of the mid-size premium segment. This is not entirely true, because the uncontested engine of the “Russian” Citroen C5 Aircross has a displacement of only 1,6 liters. But its power is 175 hp. and it works in tandem with an 8-automatic transmission.

The prices for the crossover are already known - they will cost from 4,3 million rubles. The Citroen C5 Aircross will be given an official warranty of 3 years or 100 thousand kilometers. The start of sales is planned in mid-May.

Interestingly, such Chinese-assembled crossovers, imported under the parallel import program, are cheaper. They are asking for 4,1 million rubles.
