The Dassault Falcon 900, a relatively small but very popular business jet in narrow circles, has one amazing feature in addition to its luxurious interior. It concerns its third power plant. Agree, two Honeywell TFE731-60 on the sides of the fuselage should be enough - the thrust of each turbofan engine ranges from 15,6 to 21,1 k*N. Considering the take-off weight of 22 tons and the wing area of 49 m², the third engine could easily be abandoned.
The plane would become cheaper for its owners - it costs from $26 million (depending on the features of the model, there are price tags as high as $44 million!). But it is precisely because of the users of the Falcon 900 (and this, for a moment, is the modernized Dassault Falcon 50!) The designers use three engines. The secret is safety - the extra millions for the third engine are completely justified. If one of the engines fails, the loss of thrust will be only 33%, and the aircraft will be able to confidently complete the flight. With a twin-engine configuration, the chances of a successful landing are sharply reduced. But that's not all. We are told more details about the Dassault Falcon 900 on the SkyShips channel - and there is some very interesting footage!
