Who and where exports Russian cars
In 2021, the export direction of the Russian automotive industry had to endure many upheavals. In addition to sanctions and coronavirus, this is also the absence of electronic chips that have become scarce. But despite all the problems, Russian factories sold abroad 89 units of equipment worth $100 billion, 1 million 398 thousand. This figure exceeds the same figure for the past year by 200%. This was stated by the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation. Who is the largest exporter in Russia?


AvtoVAZ


In 2021, the concern delivered 35,8 thousand vehicles abroad, which is 2020% more than in 9,4. The main exported models of the domestic flagship of the automotive industry:

In the first place - Lada Vesta. For foreign buyers, three configuration options are offered. This is the usual Sedan, Sedan Cross, SW and the most popular SW Cross. Additional options:

The main buyers are the countries of the former USSR. These are Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan. In addition to them, cars are delivered to North Africa (Tunisia), Latin America. Recently, AvtoVAZ products began to be sold in Mongolia. Also, Russian cars are bought in Turkey, Chile and Cuba. At the same time, AvtoVAZ plans to organize local production in Egypt and Kazakhstan. Initially, cars in the configuration SW Cross Luxe-Multimedia, as well as Luxe-Prestige were in the greatest demand. Today, most buyers in the CIS countries are switching to the SW Comfort version.

But in this regard, it was not possible to “make friends” with the European Union due to tightened environmental standards. As a result of the new standards adopted in the EU, the supply of products from the Togliatti plant ceased in 2019 (began in 2017).

For the first time, the Togliatti plant sent 10 VAZ-2101s abroad in 1974 (Vietnam bought them). Gradually, exports increased: in Soviet times, the main buyers of Lada from the "capitalist" states were Finland, Sweden, Australia, Norway, Canada, Iceland.


GAZ Group


It includes many enterprises that produce not only trucks, but also commercial vehicles, buses and other equipment on wheels. Most of the machines produced are supplied to the domestic market. Since 2018, the concern has been under sanctions imposed by the United States, which seriously complicates the work in the direction of exports. Nevertheless, the GAZ Group has its own branch in Turkey, where the first commercial vehicles GAZelle NN in Russia with an engine that meets Euro 6 requirements are produced. The machine is delivered to Bulgaria and some other Eastern European countries. New models of buses are gradually becoming in demand abroad. A large batch of public transport, adapted to the hot climate, was sent to Nicaragua and Vietnam. And in the second half of 2021, for the first time, deliveries of the Sadko Next truck with a right-hand drive were made to Australia.

KAMAZ


The total number of countries buying these cars is approaching fifty. But the main exporters are Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Vietnam. Of particular note is the first country. Here, the market share over the past year increased from 33% to 42%. In Kazakhstan, KAMAZ laid down an iron casting plant, the production of which is scheduled for 2022. Interestingly, the opening of this enterprise, the head of the company, Sergei Kogogin, determined the shortage of labor in Russia.

According to a three-year contract, 852 trucks were delivered to Turkmenistan last year. In this country, KAMAZ is actively building service centers where vehicles will not only be repaired, but also undergo pre-sale preparation. The situation is more complicated with Uzbekistan. The government of the country has canceled customs duties on the import of used cars. KAMAZ was not at a loss and created a leasing company. As a result, from 60 to 80 trucks are sold on the Uzbek market every month.

The number of cars sent for export amounted to 5703 units, which is 57% more than last year. At the same time, 3986 cars were delivered to the CIS markets, 1717 cars were bought in non-CIS countries. It is curious: in the EU they choose not "Patriot", but ... "loaf". Its economical Europeans often use it as motorhomes.

Hyundai Motor in St. Petersburg


The full name of the Russian branch of the South Korean company is Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus. In 2021, the plant produced 234 thousand cars, which is 6,5% more than in the past 2020. These are the models:

  • ✅ Solaris
  • ✅ Kia Rio and X
  • ✅ Crete


In total, last year the enterprise exported 24 thousand units of equipment. At the same time, 10% of the output is car kits, which are mainly supplied to Kazakhstan.

Plans


Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus participates in the restoration of the Vsevolzhsky plant, which was left by the Ford that left the Russian car market. The company will supply components for Hyundai assembly. Last fall, in Kamenka, the Koreans, together with the Russian Federation, launched an engine production plant, while the main part of the power units (BCs, crankshafts, pistons) will be localized, i.e. produced in Russia.

"PSMA Rus"


The company is located in Kaluga. The K0 project, joint with the French, started at the plant in 2018, when Peugeot Expert, Citroen Jumpy commercial vehicles began to roll off the assembly line, and a little later, Traveler and Citroen SpaceTourer minibuses. When the production of these machines was established, the company's management decided to expand the range of products (and not only from the French), to which they gradually added:

  • ✅ Citroen C4
  • ✅ Peugeot 408
  • ✅Mitsubishi Outlander
  • ✅ Opel Vivaro
  • ✅ Pajero Sport


A total of 38 contractors are involved in the process. At the same time, the level of localization reaches 40%. All glass, tires and rims, plastic elements, dashboard, interior trim materials and much more are made in Russia.

Successes in 2021 and 2022


The company has adopted a plan for the further development of Stellantis. Last year in PSMA Rus:

  • ✅ began to independently assemble the platform for the Peugeot Partner van and the Peugeot Partner Crossway compact minivan (previously it was supplied from abroad)
  • ✅ in the spring we launched a diesel power plant for export
  • ✅ in the summer a hub was organized for the supply of car engines to the global car market
  • ✅ in February 2022, the Peugeot Expert commercial model, as well as the Opel Vivaro, began to be sold in Western Europe


Toward the end of 2022, the company plans to organize the assembly of manual gearboxes for export. Compared to the previous year, the total output of PSMA Rus almost doubled.


Volkswagen Group Rus (St. Petersburg)


Exports of VW and Skoda cars increased by 10% compared to the previous year, amounting to 11 vehicles. Volkswagen Group Rus sends for sale abroad not only passenger cars, but also 500 MPI engines of the EA1.6 series. They are purchased in Poland, Mexico and Spain.

Export prospects


It is estimated that the production capacities of Russian car factories are used by 57%. In the Russian Federation today there are 15 large companies producing cars. Eleven of them belong to VW, Ria, Toyota, Reno-Nissan, Hyundai and Mazda. Experts believe that the Russian Federation has an export potential, which will be realized during the recovery of the global car market, which has given a “drawdown” due to the pandemic and the shortage of electronics.
