The history of Soviet MTZ tractors began in 1950. It was then that the first tracked D-35 rolled off the assembly line of the new plant. This technique is better known as “Kirovets”. A row crop tractor popular in the second half of the 1940s, which began to be produced in 1947. By the way, work on this technique started back in the late 30s. The American Caterpillar R2 was chosen as a role model. But production was able to be established only after the Great Patriotic War. And not in Minsk, but in Lipetsk, at the Stankostroy plant. MTZ was connected later - the country urgently needed tractors. But tracked vehicles did not take root in Minsk. The D-35 was sent to Romania a year later. And wheeled models became the symbol of MTZ.
Starting with low-power equipment, the plant gradually increased its momentum. MTZ-2 quickly became a legend due to its simplicity and reliability. The fame of wheeled tractors from Minsk resounded throughout the Soviet Union and far beyond its borders. The MTZ plant managed to survive even after the collapse of the USSR. Moreover, the company has mastered many new models. The most interesting is Belarus 4522. Of course, there are enough components and assemblies of foreign production, but many brands, including foreign ones, are guilty of this. But the tractor turned out to be grand. And they will talk about it on the “AUTOPANORAMA TV” channel.
