Izh Cortege - a pompous attempt to restore the Russian motorcycle industry
Motorcycles of the Izh brand are still remembered in Russia. Nothing strange - it was the most popular bike in the USSR. Izhaks were produced in huge quantities, so there was no shortage of most models. Maybe Izh Planet Sport, but that’s a different story. But not everyone knows that motorcycle production existed until 2008. The plant also had several new models that looked different from the “Planets” and “Jupiters”. For example, the Cornet moped or the Junker chopper. But the last representatives of the post-Soviet period were still “Jupiter” and “Planet” of the fifth series. They were produced until 2007 and 2008, respectively. In small batches, of course, but still in series.

After this, the Kalashnikov group of companies no longer produced motorcycles. Although, from time to time there were rumors about the revival of the domestic motorcycle industry. Sometimes strange models, clearly with Chinese roots, were even revealed to the world. But the most interesting was the Izh Cortege prototype, shown in 2017. No technology from the Middle Kingdom - this is a huge bike weighing over 500 kg, designed to accompany high officials. However, they also promised “civilian” versions. By the way, they should have cost more than 4 million rubles. These are prices for 2017. Of course, the model with such a price did not become a production model. But Izh Cortege exists in a single copy. And this “monster” with a 2,0-liter flat-six engine is still running. And the author of the channel “Ivan Zenkevich PRO cars” will tell you about it.
