One of the most powerful Soviet freight diesel locomotives TEP-70
By the beginning of the 70s, cargo transportation on Soviet roads reached its highest point. This led to the fact that the already existing TEP-60 simply did not have enough power. But paired in two units, it was clearly economically unprofitable. There was an urgent need for replacement in the form of equipment with higher performance. The task was successfully completed at the Kolomna Diesel Locomotive Plant. At the beginning of the summer of 1973, the design team of the enterprise presented a new product - TEP-70 with a 4000-horsepower diesel engine. By the end of the decade, the enterprise had assembled several more units of equipment, with an approximate frequency of one locomotive per year. Initial tests of the powerful device took place at the Orsha depot.

Here they were able to test in practice how successful the engineers under the leadership of Yu. Khlebnikov were in constructing a new locomotive. The fifth copy of TEP-70 was subjected to dynamic and thermal technical tests. He received positive feedback, which marked the beginning of the mass operation of equipment on the Belarusian railway. Subsequently, some diesel locomotives of this model even acquired personal names that were printed on their side. This was the best confirmation of respect and honor for the reliable worker of the steel lines. Some consider it the most successful domestic design. The host of the SsVMedia channel will tell us more in detail and interestingly about the history of TEP-70.
