We change the rims of Vesta to a larger size

Lada Vesta is a Russian-made car produced since 2015. The car differs sharply from its predecessors, both externally and in terms of technical characteristics. The manufacturer responsibly treated the exterior and paid attention not only to the body, but also to the wheels - tires, disks. And they are the first to catch the eye when meeting with the car. Initially, the model was equipped with 185/65R15 wheels. However, after some time, the manufacturer decided to install larger wheels with a diameter of 16 and 17 inches on the car. This not only gave the car a more spectacular look, but also improved its stability and handling at high speed.

Regular wheels and their characteristics

On the assembly line, Lada Vesta receives tires from the Belshina manufacturer. They belong to the Art Motion brand line, i.e., the products have passed a mandatory check for compliance with European standards. However, it is possible to supply the car in some versions with tires 185/65/R15 88 N from Pirelli Cinturato P1 (produced at subsidiaries in Russia). The basic equipment of the car includes the installation of a stamped wheel 6J 15 ET 50 4 × 100 60.1 (optionally cast models for 15” ANNA-15 from the manufacturer K&K). Explanation of designations:

• ? the first is the width
  
• ? the second is the landing diameter (inches)
  
• ? third combination - wheel offset (ET) in millimeters
  
• ? fourth - the number of bolts (here 4) and the diameter of their location (DPA, in this case 100 mm)
  
• ? the last two digits are the diameter for the hub DIA (central hole)
  

On a Lada Vesta sedan or station wagon, tires of size 185/65 R15, 195/55 R16 with a speed index H (no more than 210 km/h) or T (up to 190 km/h) can be installed. The load is from 88 to 91, which means 560-615 kg per wheel. Acceptable rim width J5, J6 or J6,5 inches at 50mm overhang.



For the Lada Vesta Cross model, standard 17-inch tires with a size of 205/50 are provided. Speed ​​index - H (up to 210 km / h), V (maximum 240 km / h) and W (no more than 270 km / h) with a load of 89-93, which means from 580 to 650 kg per wheel. Rim width J5,5, J6, J6,5 at 43 mm offset.

On luxury cars, 6X16 4X100 DIA 60 ET 50 wheels from the German manufacturer K&K, Ptalomey 16 model are installed. Continental tires can be installed. The AvtoVAZ plant recommends maintaining a pressure of 2,1 atmospheres in all tires. You can measure with a pressure gauge or install external or internal sensors, which is done through a car service or on your own.

Choice of tires and larger rims

The enlarged wheels not only radically change the exterior of the car, but also affect handling and stability, especially when performing high-speed maneuvers. And both for the better and for the worse. Mounting larger discs will require the use of a product with a smaller profile. Otherwise, the tires will simply rub against the wheel arches when cornering and driving over bumps in the road. Low-profile tires reduce comfort - bumps and pits will be felt by the driver and passengers. Therefore, driving on such tires outside of highways and good roads is not recommended. But there are also pluses (subject to certain tire sizes):

• ✅ more attractive appearance
  
• ✅ improvement of dynamics if the profile is not less than 55%
  
• ✅ reduced braking distance
  
• ✅ increase control stability
  

Similar improvements can be achieved by installing rims complete with tires on Lada Vesta:

• ✅ J6X16 4X100 4X100 DIA 60 ET 50 (model Ptalomey 16) with tires 175/70 R16 or 205/60 R16
  
• ✅ J6X17 4X100 DIA 60 ET 50 (Ptalomey 17 model) with 195/50 R17 or 175/55 R17 tires
  

In the latter case, it is recommended to install narrow tires, as they are more stable in cold weather and on icy roads. Also, when buying discs, pay special attention to the bolt pattern. On previous models of a VAZ car, a size of 98 mm was used (it has been used since the time of the “penny”), for Vesta - 100 mm. Attempts to bore holes will lead to wheel imbalance, vibrations and other unpleasant "surprises".

Lada Vesta Sports

This model deserves a special mention. Custom wheels are installed on it. The central hole for the hub has a diameter of 66,1 mm, and the bolt pattern is 5X114.3. That is, the wheels are fixed with five bolts and it is impossible to put them on other Vesta models.

Tires and wheels 18 inches

It should be said right away that the maximum acceptable tire height for Lada Vesta is 659,7 mm. If you decide to put 18-inch wheels on the car, it is recommended to use tires with the following characteristics (the width of the disc and its offset from 38 to 43 mm are indicated in brackets - the range is the same everywhere):

• ? 215/40 (7 or 7,5J)
  
• ? 225/40 (7-8J)
  
• ? 225/45 (7,5-8J)
  
• ? 230/45 (7,5-8J)
  

Nevertheless, the manufacturer does not recommend putting such high wheels.



In low-profile tires, you need to constantly monitor the pressure, because even a slight decrease can lead to rapid wear, and even damage to the product.

Self-changing wheels

Drive the car to a level place, tighten the handbrake. When removing the front wheels, place safety stops under the rear wheels and vice versa. Further:

• ? loosen the bolts on one of the discs
  
• ? raise the car with a jack, resting it in a special place on the bottom of the body
  
• ? unscrew the hardware completely and remove the wheel
  
• ? put in a new one, "bait" the bolts as far as possible
  
• ? lower the car, remove the jack and tighten the fasteners completely
  

Remember that when operating the car in winter, snow is packed under the body arches if the wheels are higher than standard ones.

What happens if you put wheels of other sizes

In addition to touching the tires on the arches, the car owner is threatened with other troubles, ultimately associated with financial costs:

• ✅ increased wear on the front and rear suspension of the car
  
• ✅ incorrect speedometer readings, and errors in reading data, even small ones, can lead to fines
  
• ✅ increased fuel consumption (if tires are wider than recommended)
  
• ✅ worse handling and longer braking distance when installing tires that are much narrower than standard ones
  

The choice of tires and rims is a rather serious issue, since it is directly related to traffic safety. On Lada Vesta, they provide good performance and an attractive exterior. Replacing regular wheels from the financial side carries little pleasant. Four discs plus 4 tires, at least, will cost 17000+ 16000 = 33 rubles. And if you are going to drive on road surfaces of different quality, safety and long service life of the car should come first, and only then - beauty.
