Toyota recalls almost 23 Avensis sold in Russia 16-20 years ago

Toyota announced the start of a recall campaign for the Avensis T250 model. This action concerns Russia, where the brand has officially left. And the cars in question were sold in our country back in 2003-2007.


The problem is airbags from the infamous Japanese company Takata. This manufacturer at one time managed to spoil the reputation of many automotive giants, primarily Toyota.

The squibs of these safety elements turned out to be unprepared for long-term operation. Aggressive substances lose their density due to exposure to humidity and high temperatures. Accordingly, the squib may fire spontaneously.


But that's not all. As a result of the explosion, the gas generator shatters into pieces that can penetrate the passenger compartment, injuring the driver and passengers. Similar cases have already been recorded - more than 300 injuries, and 10% of them ended in death.

The VIN numbers of vehicles subject to the recall campaign can be found on the Rosstandart website. Although, it is unlikely that in our country there will be many owners of old Toyota Avensis who will apply for the correction of defects. Most cars have been in accidents more than once, so there are no squibs for a long time.
