Ikarus buses are remembered for their square yellow models operating on city routes. Nothing beautiful, but they differed in spaciousness. In the USSR, this was relevant - everyone went to work by public transport. There were few cars in use, and even those were operated infrequently, for trips to summer cottages and villages. In the 90s, yellow Icaruses were also popular - the parks were not updated, so the old buses had enough work. And although they periodically broke down, and there were no new spare parts, the equipment continued to work. Something was dismantled into parts, “collective farms”, welding saved the body.
LAZ-965 is considered the most beautiful bus in the USSR. Let it not differ in size and spacious interior, but the model turned out to be cozy, homely. And the point is in the design, which has not changed for decades. After all, the first modifications of the LAZ-965 appeared in 1956. Then there were improvements, modernizations, simplifications. As a result, the model was produced until 2010.
But there were similar "Ikarus", they even looked better than the Soviet LAZ. Ikarus 55 Lux, a luxury bus operated on tourist routes, was considered the standard of beauty.
