The Forthing T5 Evo crossover will become all-wheel drive especially for Russia

The Dongfeng company will modify its crossovers produced under the Forthing brand especially for Russia. We are talking about a new modification of the T5 Evo, which will appear in the showrooms of official dealers before the end of 2024. At least they promise.


Moreover, crossovers will not be imported from China. Their assembly will be established at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad. It turns out that legally these cars will be Russian.

The press service of Ixen Motors Rus, which is the official dealer of the Forthing brand, shared the details. It turns out that the T5 Evo crossovers will receive all-wheel drive only for the Russian market. In other countries, including China, they will remain single-wheel drive.


This once again emphasizes the fact that some brands from the Middle Kingdom are serious about modifying their cars for export. After analyzing sales in Russia, Forthing management decided to equip the T5 Evo with all-wheel drive. The appearance of a 4x4 crossover will help compete with “classmates” from Chery and Geely.

However, you shouldn’t expect any off-road feats from the Forthing T5 Evo all-wheel drive. Although the technical details of the chassis have not yet been disclosed, its general layout is already known. The car will have a multi-plate clutch that automatically connects the second axle when needed.

A crossover like the all-wheel drive Forthing T5 Evo is suitable for rural areas and outdoor trips. But it’s not worth conquering harsh off-road conditions. The coupling will not withstand prolonged load - it will inevitably overheat and fail. If you're lucky, the unit will cool down and continue working. If not, you will have to buy a new one and install it at your own expense, because this is not a warranty case.

Forthing T5 Evo in Russia performs in the same class as the Mazda CX5 and Kia Sportage, which have officially left our market. Now the main competitors of the model are the Chinese Haval F7 and Chery Tiggo 7.


Under the hood of the car is a 1,5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. The engine develops 197 hp. With. The gearbox has no alternative – it is a seven-speed “robot”.

As for the cost of the all-wheel drive Forthing T5 Evo, it is still unknown. They promise to declassify it during the official premiere of the crossover in Russia. But for the single-wheel drive Forthing T5 Evo they ask us from 3,08 million rubles.
