KamAZ plans to start assembling trucks in Argentina

Representatives of the Russian auto giant said that negotiations are underway to start construction of a plant that will assemble several models of budget trucks. If the parties reach an agreement on the main aspects, work will begin as early as 2022. According to management, the production facilities will allow selling KamAZ vehicles not only in Argentina, but also in other countries of South America, many of which have already expressed interest in the vehicle.

The current situation

One of the representatives of the Argentine-Russian business club confirmed that Argentina is interested in establishing relations. The sanctions imposed by the European Union and a number of other states had no effect on the intentions of both sides. Moreover, many statesmen of the South American country are sure that now is the most favorable moment for the construction of the plant. The current situation plays into the hands of Argentina, since KamAZ is much more interested in the project than a few months ago.



Negotiations started in December 2021, today there was an unplanned pause due to well-known events. But representatives of the Argentine side are planning to fly to Russia to conclude an agreement in the coming weeks. They are confident that the sanctions pressure will ease over time and do not intend to waste time.

What is known

Earlier, the head of the municipality of Buenos Aires proposed a site for the construction of a plant on the territory of the Jose Clemente Paz industrial park, located near the Argentine capital. According to him, this is an optimal site with all the necessary communications, developed infrastructure and convenient access roads. The authorities will provide maximum assistance and will provide everything that is required to carry out the work in a short time.



But the decision on the construction site has not yet been made, the Russian side will consider all options and choose the best one. KAMAZ vehicles are familiar to customers from South America thanks to the Dakar rally-raid, which was held on the territory of the continent from 2009 to 2019. Every year, the Russian company exports several hundred units to this region. The construction of the plant will increase sales and offer more competitive prices due to lower shipping costs and the absence of customs duties.
