The tests were carried out under a press capable of creating a pressure of tens of tons. Experienced car enthusiasts who understand the structure of an internal combustion engine are well aware of the loads such an important part as the connecting rod is subjected to. It is he who transfers the energy of the “micro-explosion” through the piston to the crankshaft. The durability of the power unit depends on the reliability of the described element. Of course, one of the main roles here is played by the material of manufacture and its features.
Enthusiasts from the crazy russian experiments channel decided to conduct tests to identify the most reliable connecting rod among several engines. The engine components of such “car legends” as BMW M5, M3, 530, Nissan X-Trail were studied. As well as a diesel engine from Volkswagen and an internal combustion engine from the modest Moskvich from the USSR, which otherwise would hardly have been in such a “line.”
What remains to be done? We take the part and install it under the press using a special mandrel. It’s worth making a reservation: we test not only the connecting rod itself, but also its fastenings: a pair of bolts with nuts that tighten the lower axlebox. The check will take place in the “set”! Let’s immediately lift the veil of secrecy: the connecting rod of the BMW 530 turned out to be the weakest, which withstood a pressure of “only” 5,381 tons. What will other internal combustion engine components from famous manufacturers and a part from the Soviet Moskvich show? Watch the video!
