These ZIL trucks could have saved the plant, but something went wrong

The Likhachev plant ended its days in 2016, when the last 6 trucks left the factory gates. But ZIL’s problems began much earlier. Some argue that the plant was doomed from the start. If it had been built outside of Moscow... But the huge territory attracted investors. Or maybe the Likhachev Plant was simply unlucky. GAZ was able to get out of the crisis of the 90s. Although, initially the conditions there are unequal. Firstly, the Gorky enterprise had the Volga, and secondly, they launched the Gazelle into mass production on time. Despite criticism, the model is still driving the economy of a single enterprise, represented by GAZ, like a locomotive.


ZIL came up with “Bychka”, but it was too late - there were enough competitors. And it seems that the designers did not understand the main advantage of the Gazelle. It is a passenger car, despite the fact that in fact it turned out to be a full-fledged truck. However, it cannot be said that the engineers of the Likhachev Plant were inactive. Alas, the Gazelle was not able to be defeated or supplanted by the machines. Most likely because the ZiL designers tried to create something original. Alas, it didn't work out...
