In Russia, several real SUVs are produced. These are UAZ and Lada 4x4. Moreover, the Niva is officially considered a crossover. But the cross-country ability of the VAZ-2121 inspires respect - not every "jeep" will reach where this car will get.


But the ideal was produced in Russia, that SUV that looms on the forums. Short base, engines to choose from, high cross-country ability and frame. This is Tagaz Tager, a Russian SUV produced from 2008 to 2012.

Brief history of the model


Taganrog Automobile Plant is a unique enterprise. Established in 1997, it began to manufacture passenger cars, usually under Korean licenses. The head of the enterprise tried to create ideal cars for the Russians, while keeping their prices low.

There is a feeling that the plant was built on a cursed place - not a single model became a bestseller, and the manufacturer itself eventually went bankrupt.

The history of Tagaz Tager began in 2006, when the production of SsangYong Korando SUVs was discontinued in Korea. In 2005, the Koreans abandoned the production of the Musso model.

The owner of the Taganrog plant, Mikhail Paramonov, decided that this was his chance, and he bought out the lines for the production of two popular SsangYong SUVs.


In 2008, sales of the first Tagaz Tagers started. In addition to the three-door modification, a five-door version was also produced. This is an innovation - the original SsangYong Korando was produced in only one body.

The car was a frame and equipped with engines:

There were no analogues of Tagaz Tager on the Russian market in 2008, but sales did not start - only about 2 cars a year. This is due to distrust of the brand and the economic crisis.

Appearance


You can have different attitudes to the appearance of Tagaz Tager, but the fact that the car is not like the others and attracts attention is unequivocal. Some people still buy an SUV because of the unusual look, although there are even more people who call the car ugly.

In fact, this appearance is not an accident at all, but a tribute to Korean engineers who created an off-road vehicle with high cross-country ability.

The view from the car takes some getting used to - a lot of things are imperceptible at the top, up to hanging traffic lights. Behind the headrests interfere, and the glass there is quickly covered with mud.


There are also complaints about the luggage compartment - it is frankly small, although there is a lot of space in height, but the width is insufficient. Of course, you can fold the rear seats and translate something overall, but in this case there are only two places left.

Engines


Motors from Tagaz Tager for every taste. Let's start with gasoline. The weakest of them is 2,3 liters, developing 150 hp. With. The unit is reliable and hassle-free. The same can be said about the 3,2-liter engine with 220 hp. With.

Diesel engines come across mainly 2,9 liters. for 120 l. With. Sometimes there is an option of 2,6 per 106 liters. s, but you should not contact him, this unit must be disassembled separately.


Almost all engines are considered Mercedes - this does not mean that they were supplied from a German factory, they were simply produced in Korea under a license from Mercedes. They are reliable, and take care of 500 km easily, but this is not a Mercedes, but something “based on”.

2,6 diesel is something! Everyone who took such a car spat. The motor is problematic, where it came from at all - the Tagaz people kept it a secret. Constantly broke, and buying this option is strictly not recommended! This engine has nothing to do with Mercedes!

Suspension and repair costs


Usually chassis frame SUVs in this price range are hard, but Tagaz Tager is smooth. On broken roads, you can move at high speed, and nothing will happen to the suspension, but deep holes, of course, are better to go around.

If something in the hodovka breaks down, the repair is budget-friendly, both in terms of the cost of parts and the work itself.


In general, the maintenance of Tagaz Tager never bothers the owners. The Korean origin of the car and the reliability of engines created under license from Mercedes affect.

Many are afraid to buy a car, as it has not been produced for a long time, and the manufacturer has been declared bankrupt. By the way, recently all the equipment of the Taganrog Automobile Plant was cut into scrap metal, which does not add enthusiasm.

But as long as SsangYong exists, there will be no problems with spare parts. The cost of parts, especially consumables, is often on par with AvtoVAZ products.

Of course, it’s difficult to call Tagaz Tager economical, but it’s a frame SUV.

Main problem


The main problem of some cars is a manual transmission. Oddly enough, but it turned out to be many times worse than the automatic transmission. At the same time, the SsangYong Korando manual transmission is generally trouble-free. This suggests that in order to reduce the final cost, the manufacturer supplied some other box.

Gears start to crunch when shifting, and then the fork fails. There is no particular point in repairing a manual transmission, and it turns out to be expensive. The best option is to replace the unit with mechanics from SsangYong Korando.


If there is an opportunity and means, you can put an automatic transmission.

Passability


But with this parameter, the car is all right. Even without preparation, patency is amazing. No wonder the model in Korea was supplied to the army!

Of course, Tagaz Tager can be improved, especially for professionals, but for an ordinary hunter or fisherman, its potential is more than enough.

An SUV costs now from 300 rubles - this already hints at its demand in the secondary market. When buying such a car, you need to understand that it is unlikely to be suitable as a family car.
