Resale Hummer - how much does it cost to own a legend?
Hummer is a civilian version of the American military SUV HMMWV, which for many still remains the personification of what a brutal male car should look like. For example, in the garage of Arnold Schwarzenegger - bodybuilding legend and Hollywood star - there is a militarized and electric version of the Hummer H1. You don't have to be as rich as Schwartz to buy such a car, but can you afford to maintain it? Let's find out!

Briefly about history

Hummer's lineup of rugged SUVs has three generations - H1, H2 and H3. If you put them next to each other, you can immediately see how over the years the car loses its militarism in appearance, exchanging it for the smooth and calm outlines of the body. Someone will say that this is how Hammer "slid into pop music", but we retort with the fact that everyone will find a generation to their liking.

Hummer H1

The first generation was produced from 1992 to 2006 and looked as brutal as possible. It is with this model that most people associate the formidable name Hammer. Chopped shapes, almost rectangular body. Despite the fact that the version was produced for 14 years, the H1 is the smallest. In Russia, you can count a few dozen of them, no more, and even fewer in good condition.

The Hummer H1 sacrifices driver and passenger comfort for maximum off-road capability and mobility. It's a radical SUV when compared to the more civilian Jeep. The first generation is extremely stable on the road due to the wide track. The car calmly crosses a ford up to 76 cm deep and can climb obstacles up to 56 cm high.

Hummer H2

The second generation was produced in parallel with the first in the period from 2002 to 2009. It received a more restrained exterior, in which a rectangle is still guessed, but with smoothed shapes. The H2 SUV was produced in the USA and Kaliningrad. The Russian one is distinguished by the absence of a winch, a second battery and a sixth place in the trunk in order to meet the weight of 3,5 tons of category “B”.

The H2 SUT modification also deserves attention - this is a pickup truck that was produced from 2005 to 2009. As standard, it has a short loading platform with a useful length of a modest 0,88 m. However, you can fold the rear wall of the cab and get a compartment with a length of 1,85 m and a capacity of 1490 liters. Compared to the regular H2, the SUT model is somewhat shorter.

Hummer H3

The third generation, which is typical, was also produced along with the first and second - from 2005 to 2010. Hummer H3 looks like a "teenager" compared to its predecessors. It is smaller and more modest in terms of technology, more rounded, but at the same time the most massive - over the years of production, more than 160 thousand cars were sold. The car was redesigned suspension and chassis.

Service price

Only a wealthy and patient person can handle the maintenance of the Hummer H1. Spare parts are not only expensive, but also rare, like the car itself - the "gray" dealers have little in stock, the official ones too, and all this is seriously aggravated by problems with logistics against the backdrop of sanctions.

Owners of second-generation SUVs complain about a weak transfer case and automatic transmission, which is why even for a short period of owning the Hummer H2, you may encounter a breakdown. Spare parts are expensive, hard to find in stock, you have to order and wait patiently for delivery.

Hummer H3 can be called the most reliable of all three generations. Most likely this is due to the fact that over the years of the existence of an SUV, manufacturers have been able to more or less bring it to mind. Rare reviews mention electrical problems. Components are still rare and quite expensive, it is often impossible to buy them on the same day - you need to order them from abroad. It is easy to understand that the waiting time, taking into account logistical problems, can be months.

Transport tax

The amount of transport tax depends on the engine power of the SUV and the region of the Russian Federation in which the car is registered. For this reason, we can consider the ranges:

✅ H1 - from 9000 to 45750 rubles
✅ H2 - from 47250 to 61350 rubles
✅ H3 - from 14495 to 45000 rubles

The amount of transport tax above is given for Moscow. To calculate the fee in your region, use the online calculator, for example, on the official website of the Federal Tax Service of Russia.

Fuel costs

For the H1 generation, fuel consumption is claimed from 18,1 to 23,3 liters per 100 km, depending on the engine version. Take, for example, a gasoline Hummer - you can “feed” AI-92 to it. The fuel tank in most versions holds 95 liters, with the exception of models with a 5,7-liter engine, which can be filled immediately to 159 liters. Therefore, for a full refueling of a standard Hummer with AI-92 gasoline in Moscow at the beginning of autumn 2022, you will spend about 4300 rubles.

The second generation Hummer received an enlarged 121 liter fuel tank, regardless of engine type. Fuel consumption, according to official statements, ranges from 20,6 to 21,9 liters per 100 km. You can refuel AI-92, which means that you will spend about 5450 rubles on a full tank.

The third generation Hummer is more economical than the H1 and H2. On average, an SUV consumes from 14 liters per 100 km on the highway to 18 liters per 100 km in the city. The fuel tank, on the other hand, is the smallest in the range, holding just 87 liters. Considering that the consumption is also lower, this practically did not affect the cruising range. You can refuel with gasoline grade not lower than AI-95, which imposes additional costs. For a full tank you need 4250 rubles.

How much does a used one cost?

Hummer H1, due to its rarity and full compliance with the standards of a militarized and brutal SUV, is the most expensive representative of the brand. In the Russian secondary market, prices for the first Hummer start at 5,7 million rubles and reach 15 million rubles. Basically, the offers are “fresh” in terms of mileage: only some have more than 100 thousand kilometers on the odometer.

Hummer H2, on the contrary, is represented in the secondary car market in the largest number. At the very bottom of the price are, oddly enough, Hammer limousines. You can buy this at a price of 900 thousand to 1,3 million rubles. As for the usual options not for weddings and parties with a large company, their price tag starts at 1,345 million and reaches 12 million rubles.

Despite the authenticity of the Hummer H1, most prefer the later generations. Photo: youtube.com

Hummer H3 takes a confident second place in terms of popularity and availability in the secondary market. At prices, the situation is almost the same as with the second generation. Well-worn specimens with a mileage of 200 thousand kilometers are sold at a price of 1 million rubles. For more "fresh" prices are in the region of 2-2,5 million rubles. More expensive ones are already tuned versions.

Conclusion

The Hummer in the H1 and H2 generations are definitely cars for people who are either not used to counting fuel and maintenance costs, or who plan to use an SUV as a weekend car. For everyday use, you can only consider instances of H3. Such Hummers have adequate consumption, an acceptable level of comfort for the driver and passengers, while handling and maneuverability are in order. Yes, not so brutal, but rational and there are not so many risks of sudden breakdowns - after all, the generation is reliable.
