Honda Super Cub - this legendary Japanese moped is still in production

Honda Super Cub - this legendary Japanese moped is still in production
Japanese small-capacity two-wheeled vehicles in Russia are represented mainly by scooters - this has been the case since the 90s. For some reason, mopeds from the Land of the Rising Sun are almost never found in our country.

It's hard to explain - scooters for the countryside are not suitable, but that's where they are most. Mopeds, apparently, are considered a relic of the Soviet Union. Or maybe the Japanese are just not in a hurry to sell them - such a “cow” is needed by oneself.

There is only one popular moped model, which has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. It is also found in Russia - for example, now there are about 35 pieces on sale. It's a Honda SuperCub.

The moped debuted in 1958 and is still in production. It was from this model that Chinese manufacturers copied their Alfas. Yes, and engines in a cubic capacity of 50-180 cm3 from China are the same copies of Honda Super Cub engines, which, by the way, even in the original are 110 cm3.

You won’t be able to consider all the “Super Cabs”, and there’s no point in this - the oldest modifications are generally not found on sale. You need to start with those models that are sold in Russia.

By the way, the cost of Japanese mopeds starts at 70 and ends at 135 thousand rubles. For a legend, this is not much, especially considering the simplest design and reliability of the model.

Honda Super Cub C50 carburetor

The most common moped in the world, but not in Russia. It was produced from 1982 to 2011, although for the last 7 years there has already been an injector version.

This moped is valued more than a more modern one. The reason is the simplicity of design and the ability to repair in any Russian village.

Models of different years, despite the fact that they were produced for almost 30 years, are almost identical. Due to the fact that the Chinese massively copied this technique, there are no problems with finding spare parts and consumables.

It can be repaired on a budget - by buying parts from Alpha. If there is a desire, then the original is ordered from Japan.
The carbureted Honda Super Cub C50 is commonly referred to as a classic.

The model is easily tuned with the same Chinese kits. So you can increase the engine displacement by installing a new CPG. After that, it is advisable to change the carburetor to a more productive one and install an outlet with a larger hole.

The engine is 50 cm3, which is clear from the name of the model, where this figure appears. The motor is four-stroke, which guarantees its economy and reliability.

Honda Super Cub C50 injection

The model debuted in 2007 and was produced until 2012. The main feature is the injection engine power system. The rest of the moped is identical to the carbureted version.

Advantages of the model:

✅ The injection system does not need to be adjusted
✅ Easy start in any weather
✅ Low fuel consumption

There are also a couple of downsides. For example, the power is lower due to the catalyst installed for the sake of environmental standards.

But the main thing is the search for spare parts. From the carbureted Chinese Alfs, nothing fits this Japanese engine. We'll have to order straight from the Land of the Rising Sun. There is an alternative - ordering tuning kits, but again they are Japanese and are more expensive.

But on the running gear here, many details fit from Alpha, and this pleases. Although, the repair and maintenance of "thoroughbred" Japanese equipment with Chinese spare parts is a frank bad manners.

Outwardly, the injection version can be distinguished by the absence of a carburetor, and from afar - by the black engine. The rear trunk of this model is longer.

Honda Press Cub C50

Special version made for Japanese postmen in 1988. Used by any delivery services and individuals.
It is distinguished by the presence of two trunks, the location of the turn signals not on the steering wheel, but under the basket and a reinforced rear part. Accordingly, the carrying capacity is higher.

In Russia, the Honda Press Cub C50 is common, but it is recommended to buy only after a thorough inspection. The fact is that they are cheap in Japan due to average runs of 80 km. We are “adjusting” them to 000-10 thousand, apparently so as not to shock the “vulnerable” Russians. You can't suspect crystal-clear resellers of wanting to cash in on the resale of junk!

To the problems with the search for spare parts for the engine, a partially hodovka is added. Reinforced dampers on the rear wheel can only be ordered from Japan. An asterisk can also be picked up in Russia - from JT.

Honda Super Cub C50 Custom

Factory equipment in the "top" version. Comfortable moped for movement, especially in rural areas.

The main differences:

✅ Square headlight
✅ Four speed gearbox
✅ Electric starter
✅ Looks elegant

It happens only carbureted. With spare parts, the situation is the same as for the modifications discussed above. The only caveat is that the lining is difficult to get even in Japan, not to mention Russia. Therefore, when buying, you need to pay attention to the exterior.

Honda Super Cub C90

A simple carbureted moped for those who are not satisfied with the standard fifty dollars. Handles a large driver with ease. You can carry a passenger, for which a removable seat on the trunk is provided.

The 90 cm3 engine allows you to move dynamically even in the city. The model has reinforced shock absorbers and wheel rims.

As for the search for spare parts - there are no problems with this. You won’t be able to pick up the Chinese “native” CPG for 90 cm3, but here it will be 110 cm3 from Alpha.

Honda Super Cub АА04/JA10

Injection versions of the popular Japanese moped with 50 and 110 cm3 engines. Differ in modern design. Although, it is taken from the model of the second half of the 1980s - this is what the Honda Dream looked like.

If you throw away the appearance, we can say that this is a Super Cub Custom, only with an injection engine. The moped is reliable and economical, but spare parts for it will have to be ordered from Japan. From the Chinese motorcycle industry, nothing is suitable here without making changes to the design.

Which Honda Super Cub is better to choose

When choosing a Japanese moped, you first need to decide for yourself - are you ready to overpay for a legend? It is desirable to service such equipment with original parts.

If you put "China", then the point in buying is lost. It’s easier to take the same “Alpha” from the Middle Kingdom, and calmly ride it, putting up with periodic breakdowns.

Which model is better to choose - carburetor or injection? Here you need to focus on your preferences and "friendship" with technology.

A simple moped can be repaired and adjusted by yourself. The injector is more suitable for those who do not want to get their hands dirty by sorting through the "piece of iron", and the equipment will be operated in the city.

In rural areas, a carburetor is better, especially if a moped is bought for trips through the forest and fishing. Such equipment can work without problems on low-octane gasoline, and there are no sensors there that can catch on bushes and snags, for example.

In terms of working volume - here you need to build on physical parameters. For a man weighing over 100 kg, “fifty kopecks” will not work - there will be a lack of traction. It is better to take 90-110 cm3.

Regarding which model to take - the old one or AA04 / JA10. The new generation is definitely more comfortable, but more expensive. Plus, you can not use Chinese parts.

And the last thing - is it worth looking for a Honda Super Cub from Japan, or can you look at the copies that are offered on the domestic market? Here everything is individual, sometimes rubbish is brought from the Land of the Rising Sun, which has stood motionless for several years. And in Russia, the previous owner took care of the moped.

Only a personal inspection will help you find a Honda Super Cub in good condition. But keep in mind that no one will sell good equipment cheaply.
