ER200 is the only Soviet high-speed train
The appearance of this model is familiar to many, as it was depicted on packages with sugar bags, and was also used in various printed materials. Meanwhile, the ER200 began to be developed back in 1969. The complex task of designing a 14-car electric train was entrusted to the Riga branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Carriage Building. But employees of more than 50 organizations from all over the USSR were involved in the work.

The technical documentation was ready in 1969. But it took 10 years to build, eliminate all the shortcomings and conduct tests - after such a period of time the first passengers were able to pass in the train. Adaptation to winter conditions brought many problems, as the equipment in the lower part froze over due to fast driving.

The speed of the train was 200 km / h, which at that time was the most impressive indicator. The composition was used on the Moscow-Leningrad line. It had a bar, soft chairs in the carriages, by analogy with foreign models. In 1979, the train made 24 commercial trips. The plot was shown in the program "Time". It was a real breakthrough with a number of original technical solutions. To learn more about this train, watch the video from the SSvMedia channel.
