T-40AL - an unusual model of a tractor on an articulated frame
Lipetsk equipment was widespread in the Soviet Union, but even this manufacturer has models that almost no one knows about. Today we will analyze a tractor designed specifically for the forestry industry. The basis was the legendary T-40. A single-axle motor module was taken from the standard model and an active-type semi-trailer at the rear.

Simply put, a technique was taken without a front axle, connected to a welded semi-frame. The rear axle was switched on automatically when the front wheels slipped, as in the usual T-40. Lightweight and manoeuvrable, the tractor was intended for thinning, thinning and reforestation where clumsy crawler skidders were not suitable.

The model was designed by Leningrad scientists in collaboration with engineers from the Lipetsk Tractor Plant. The first copy was released in 1965. The tractor weighed about 4 tons, the “breaking” body turned due to hydraulic cylinders. It proved to be nimble, though not without flaws. The development never went into series, although it turned out to be progressive for its time. To learn even more about this rare model, watch the video from the Maksim TechnikPRO YouTube channel.
