Romanian startup assembles an electric bike from bamboo
Diodra from Romania is revolutionizing the idea of electric bicycles. If previously these were quiet, but relatively heavy models with a metal frame, the new product, called S3, has a completely bamboo body.

According to official information from Diodra, the electric bicycle with a bamboo frame weighs only 15 kg. Compared to most competitors, this is a significant difference in terms of lightness. Of course, such a low weight of the product is primarily due to the use of bamboo.

Lightweight but very durable natural material is also 100% environmentally friendly, at all stages of bicycle production. The same, alas, cannot be said about titanium, aluminum or steel frames, which are actively used in the manufacture of electric bikes.

Despite the fact that the technology for making bicycle frames from bamboo is by no means new, the price of the product is quite impressive. This seems especially incomprehensible given the fact that in general the bike lags behind its competitors in a number of characteristics. The bamboo frame remains its main feature.

Heavy bicycles are difficult to maneuver and starting and stopping are also difficult. This is especially critical for athletes who engage in cycling. There are doubts that people aimed at ordinary everyday trips will appreciate the Diodra S3.

The electric motor and battery are integrated into the rear wheel hub. The electric drive weighs about 4 kg (almost 30% of the total weight of the bike) and develops a power of 250 W. Its torque reaches 48 N*m. For an electric bike, the values are quite average.

On electric power you can accelerate to a cruising speed of 25 km/h, and even more from a hill. A battery with a capacity of 25 Ah, according to the manufacturer, will provide a range of up to 100 km without recharging. When it comes to the latter, it will take about 100 hours to replenish the charge to 3,5%.

The advantages of the new bike include resistance to bad weather, effective disc brakes and tires that are not afraid of punctures.

The Romanian brand meets customers halfway and gives a discount on a bamboo EV bike. As a result, you can get a bike for 2200 euros or 220000 rubles at the current exchange rate. The initial cost of Diodra S3 was 2900 euros or 288000 rubles.
