Mercedes-Benz G-Class updated - no electric cars and V8 only in the AMG version

Mercedes-Benz presented an updated legend – the frame SUV G-Class. No generational change - only cosmetic and technical improvements, and more comfort options.


Let us remind you that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been produced since 1979. The current generation has the index W463 and it debuted in the early 90s. By the way, the last restyling in 2018 was so large-scale that it looked like a new generation. But the manufacturer decided that this would negatively affect sales.

There is no electric modification yet, but it will definitely appear. They promise to show a car without an internal combustion engine before the end of this year.


Externally, it is quite difficult to distinguish the updated Gelik if you do not know the nuances. And they, as usual, are in the little things. For example, the bumpers have become larger and have more rounded corners. A different radiator grille has appeared - now there are four slats arranged horizontally, rather than three.

The manufacturer offers a line of alloy wheels with a new design. The A-pillars are more aerodynamically shaped, and a spoiler has appeared above the windshield. This is said to make the Mercedes-Benz G-Class more streamlined. Although, given the square appearance of the model, fashionable in the late 70s, there is no point in talking about any aerodynamics.

A camera system with washers allows the driver to see everything that is happening from all sides of the car. There is a “transparent hood” function.

The interior of the updated G-Class essentially remains the same. The only thing that catches your eye is the new steering wheel. If you look closely, you will notice slight differences in the ergonomics of the climate control and differential control units.

The firmware of the on-board computer and multimedia system has been updated. Now there are more functions and better graphics.

There are no changes to the chassis. Except that adaptive shock absorbers will be included even in the basic configuration. The latter, by the way, is diesel and is equipped with a 3,0-liter engine producing 367 hp.

The petrol Gelik lost its V8. This engine is preserved only under the hood of the AMG G63. This is a four-liter power unit with two turbines and a power of 585 horsepower.


The “regular” Mercedes G500 will be offered with a petrol inline-six. The 3,0-liter engine develops 449 hp.

According to modern requirements, all engines of the updated Gelika received a hybrid “add-on” in the form of a starter-generator, which helps save fuel and accelerate.

Prices have so far been announced only for the basic diesel version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. For it in Germany they will ask from 122,8 thousand euros (12,33 million rubles).
