The latest generation Renault Duster will be turned into a production pickup truck

The latest generation Renault Duster will be turned into a production pickup truck
Renault is working on a new pickup truck. It will replace the Oroch model, which is popular in several countries in South America. It is already known that the “trolley” from the latest generation Duster is used as a chassis.

Exactly when the pickup will go on sale has not yet been announced. But the manufacturer said that this will be a stylish model, designed not only for the markets of developing countries.

The current Renault Oroch pickup truck is also made on the Duster chassis, but of the previous generation. This car is quite specific. Despite the fact that it is positioned as a model for lovers of adventure and outdoor activities, it is distinguished by its budget performance. That's why Oroch is sold only in South American countries.

They love pickup trucks, preferably full-size ones. But the incomes of most local drivers do not allow them to buy models from the United States. Therefore, pickup trucks are being developed for them on the chassis of budget crossovers, and sometimes even simple cars.

The new SUV will receive many features from the Niagara prototype. Due to this, the manufacturer hopes to increase demand for the model. Despite the fact that the platform is from Renault Duster, the pickup will look more like a concept.

The manufacturer is going to release the SUV in two main versions. The first will receive a single-row cabin. Due to this, the length of the cargo compartment will allow you to transport more things and equipment. In the second version, the car will be equipped with a two-row cabin. This is already a full-fledged family SUV.

It is generally difficult for Russian drivers to understand the demand for pickup trucks. But in South America they are almost as popular as in the USA. The fact is that many people there live in rural areas, so they need such versatile cars. After all, you don’t want to let animals into the interior of a single-volume SUV. And the cargo bed of a pickup truck is perfect for this.

You shouldn’t expect any high off-road qualities from a new car. The drive there will be mainly front-wheel drive. Only hybrid versions will have an additional electric motor on the rear axle. However, as practice shows, a single-wheel drive Renault Duster is enough even for hunting and fishing trips, at least in Russia.

Let us remember that Oroch was produced only in left-hand drive version. They promise to make the new pickup truck right-hand drive in order to expand the geography of sales. The main competitors to the SUV from Renault will be Chevrolet Montana and Fiat Toro.

Just in case, let us remind you that the latest generation of Duster has lost its diesel engine. In Europe, this crossover is produced under the Dacia brand. Unlike the previous generation model, the car has become more “muscular” and sporty.
