Toyota FJ Cruiser will return - despite the “cartoon” appearance, it will be a full-fledged SUV

Toyota is preparing a new SUV. More precisely, it is a revived FJ Cruiser. The car has already been announced as the successor to the brutal model. But it is far from certain that it will be called that way.


But there is information on what chassis the SUV with a square body design is based on. The manufacturer chose the “trolley” of the Hilux pickup truck. It turns out that the new Toyota FJ Cruiser will be a full-fledged SUV.

The Japanese do not want to make models with a brutal design on a crossover chassis, which is what Chinese brands are guilty of. Toyota is going to give fans exactly what they want.


It's unlikely that the new FJ Cruiser will look like a pickup truck, despite the common platform. Firstly, the car will be five-door and one-volume.

Secondly, the Hilux, recently shown in Turkey, is positioned as an affordable model. As for the FJ Cruiser, it is definitely an image car. It has never been cheap.

One of Toyota's top managers directly hinted that the new IMV 1 platform is intended not only for pickup trucks. Hao Quoc Tien said that they are now working on an SUV.

The new FJ Cruiser will be mid-size. Its main task is to give city residents complete freedom of movement. At the same time, the dimensions of the car will allow you to maneuver and park in a modern metropolis without much difficulty.

The Toyota FJ Cruiser chassis will be based on a powerful ladder-type frame. It’s just unclear whether it will remain the same as the original model, discontinued a year ago.

This is a hint that it is prone to breakdowns in an accident. By the way, this design feature is not accidental - it was done for the safety of the driver and passengers. However, given that the car will be on a pickup truck chassis, most likely they will not redo the frame.


Externally, the successor to the Toyota FJ Cruiser has nothing in common with the single-platform Fortuner and Innova models. The new SUV will definitely be square. The interior will also be redone, because the model claims to be premium, albeit in its own rather specific class.

As before, the main market for the new Toyota FJ Cruiser will be the USA. There, such SUVs are called “beach” and are very popular in the southern states bordering the ocean.

The pre-production car is promised to be shown to the public before the end of 2024. FJ Cruiser fans can breathe out - the model will return.

As for the cost of the new SUV, even approximate, there is no information on this yet.
