Lexus is reducing its lineup - a pair of stylish coupes will be replaced by one new hybrid
Japanese premium brand Lexus is going to abandon the RC and LC coupes. Outdated gasoline models will be replaced by a hybrid, and only one. But the car will remain a coupe. Despite the fact that such models are not particularly popular, they are the pride of any brand.

The phasing out of petrol RC and LC is not directly related to low demand. The Japanese have long been accustomed to the fact that coupes are specific models. If such a car managed to at least recoup the money spent on its development and production, this is already a success.

But they show the brand’s achievements. If the conventional Lexus is able to allocate funds for such models, they are doing well. Competitors have to respond in kind. This was especially evident in the 90s, when Japanese manufacturers broke sales records and earned huge amounts of money.

As for the new hybrid coupe, the car will receive Lexus' signature design. Exactly what it will look like has not yet been announced, but development has been going on for a long time. They promise that the hybrid will be in the spirit of the RC and LC models, it will combine the latter.

But in terms of size and layout, the new car will still be closer to the LC. The length of the model will be 4,8 meters. Salon layout – 2+2. They promise a premium finish.

There is also bad news for lovers of powerful gasoline engines. The hybrid engine is based on the V6. It won't be the same six-cylinder powerplant found in the RC and LC coupes. Let us remember that they have transverse engines, not V6.

The V8 will be abandoned. This motor is too environmentally friendly and structurally outdated. There is no point in trying to squeeze it into a new framework.

Most likely, the hybrid power plant will be based on a similar one used in the latest generation Toyota Tundra for the US market. The SUV has a combined power of a gasoline V6 with an electric motor of 443 hp. With. Most likely, the output of the power plant will be increased for the coupe.

But the manufacturer has not yet decided whether to abandon all-gasoline modifications altogether. It is possible that the 3,5-liter inline six-cylinder engine will remain for the most affordable versions of the new coupe.

There is another version. According to it, even basic modifications of the car will be hybrid. Only their power plants will be similar to those of the new Toyota Land Cruiser 250. Let us remind you that the “four” with a volume of 2,4 liters is taken as the basis there.

Prices for the new product have not yet been disclosed.
