John Deere 9RX830 – new flagship: the largest in history

John Deere 9RX830 – new flagship: the largest in history
On the penultimate day of February, John Deere presented its new flagship at the Commodity Classic exhibition, the 9RX830 model, which develops a power of 913 horses. Two more tractors from the same line were also presented: 9RX710 (781 hp) and 9RX770 (847 hp).

One of the company's managers, M. Porter, noted that at the exhibition visitors saw not a variant of existing tractors, but a “modernization from scratch.” The peculiarity of the new machines is that they are almost completely prepared to work in autonomous mode. What is the new flagship like technically?

Powerplant and hydraulics

All three models, including the 9RX830, are equipped with a proprietary JD18X motor. This is a 3rd generation diesel engine with a volume of 18 liters. A recirculation system is integrated into the engine, which meets environmental requirements 4/Stage V.

Previously, farmers were forced to use special diesel exhaust fluid DEF to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere (approximately 3 thousand 637 liters per year). Now this is not required.

Paired with the power unit is a triple hydraulic pump with a capacity of 636 l/minute. Powerful equipment is designed to work on large sown areas.

Four to eight hydraulic outlets are provided to operate trailed equipment. There is a power take-off shaft rotating at a speed of 1000 rpm. Uninterrupted operation of the equipment is ensured by fuel tanks with a volume of 1952 liters.

Chassis

The tracks move thanks to drive wheels with a diameter of 1,2 meters. Track width 762 mm. The equipment is equipped with a PowerShift e21 step transmission, providing 21 forward and 11 reverse gears. Due to innovations, the total weight of the model increased to 33,5 tons.

What's new in the cabin

It is called CommandView 4 Plus: it features a larger (20% increase on the right) glass area, increased comfort and a smooth ride, which is provided by the new four-post MCS type suspension. The cabin itself has become 15% more spacious. To control tractor mechanisms and trailed implements, the CommandCenter G5Plus display with a built-in StarFire 7500 receiver is used.

The control system includes modules: AutoTrac automatic turns, AutoPath movement path planning and many others. The tractor uses its own John Deere operations center, guaranteeing access to the parameters of the operating machine and trailed equipment anywhere, at any time.

The maintenance system has been thought out: all frequently used points are located so that they can be reached from the ground. Thanks to the use of a quick filling system, large tanks are filled within four minutes. As the manufacturer's representative stated at the exhibition, the new line of tractors will help quickly prepare the field for sowing while simultaneously reducing operating costs. The power of the presented equipment allows you to use the largest trailer equipment and drag it at speed over any terrain.

At the same time, productivity increases by at least 100 acres (40,5 hectares) per day. Such results have been achieved in practice. The 9RX830 was able to pull disc equipment at 13,4 mph (21,56 km/h). While its predecessor 9RX640 with the same “trailer” was only able to develop 11,9 mph (19,15 km/h) in the same area (11 cm depth).

Sales

All three cars will begin mass production towards the end of this year (according to other sources, from 2025). However, orders are accepted starting in March. There is no information yet about the cost of new products.
