New modern crossovers will begin to be produced in Russia

The Russian Avtotor plant will produce a batch of DFSK SUVs of two models – ix5 and ix7. The cars were ordered by Motorinvest. Company executives believe that the cars will be in demand in Russia.


An agreement on the supply of necessary components and components has already been concluded with the Dongfeng brand. After all, he is the actual manufacturer of DFSK crossovers. The cars will only be assembled at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad.

So far there is no talk of localizing production. And the point here is not at all that Avtotor and Motorinvest are not interested in this. It’s just that the scheme must be at least profitable, and not unprofitable. It is not yet clear whether the ix5 and ix7 crossovers will be purchased in the volumes required for permanent assembly.


Let us remind you that only one car of the DFSK line is officially sold on the Russian market. This is the Dongfeng 580 crossover.

As for the DFSK ix5, which will definitely be assembled at the Avtotor plant, this is a full-fledged mid-size SUV. The design is a typical sports coupe. Its length is 4,68 meters and its ground clearance is 200 mm. It seems that the model is aimed at a youth audience.

For our market, the car will be equipped with an uncontested 1,5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. Its power is 137 hp. With. Not to say that it’s impressive, but you don’t have to worry about the reliability of the power unit with such a low boost. Plus, it is designed for AI-92 gasoline.

The engine will be paired with a non-alternative CVT gearbox. Average fuel consumption is stated at 7,3 liters.

The second crossover that will be assembled under a partnership agreement with Dongfeng is the DFSK ix7. The car is even visually larger than the previous one. Appearances do not deceive – the length of the model is 4,93 meters.


This is already a three-row family crossover. And the engine under the hood is much more serious - 2,0 liters. The power unit is turbo-petrol, power – 231 hp. With. The gearbox here is also more prestigious - “automatic”. The drive is only all-wheel drive, regardless of the configuration.

It is worth noting that Avtotor is not risking anything in the transaction. The entire debut batch of crossovers of two models will be paid for by Motorinvest. Implementation is their business. It is for this reason that for now the conversation is only about a trial batch.

By the way, Motorinvest assumes all obligations to future clients. This includes warranty, maintenance, supply of consumables and spare parts.
