Trucks for the Soviet village - they are superior in cross-country ability to modern SUVs
Trucks for rural areas were not initially produced in the Soviet Union. The fact is that the models were already considered universal. They were distinguished by high ground clearance. The same GAZ-53 and ZIL-130 have proven themselves on collective and state farms. The main thing is that the weather is suitable. But in muddy times, universal trucks got stuck. Therefore, it was often necessary to use military models with all-wheel drive. This was the so-called patronage assistance. And then agricultural modifications began to be made on the chassis of special off-road trucks. They also existed on the basis of ordinary universal cars. As a rule, the fitting scheme turned out to be simple. The sides of the platform were extended so that grain, root crops and other relatively light but large cargo could be transported. Dump trucks, preferably three-sided ones, were also valued in the villages.

But there were also specific models developed specifically for the village. The most famous of these will be the off-road “Colchis”. This is the KAZ-4540 - a truck similar to the GAZ-66, but much more convenient for the driver. Of course, the location of the cabin was surprising, but it was possible to travel long distances with relative comfort. And they will talk about the KAZ-4540 and other specific Soviet trucks for rural areas on the “AUTO HISTORY” channel.
