Soviet combines are a symbol of collective farms of the 80s. During the harvest, majestic machines “floated” through the fields. It looked especially impressive from afar. But how good is the technology from the USSR? For example, the DON-1500 combine, which was produced from 1986 to 2006. Apparently, the technology was not bad, otherwise it would have been abandoned after the collapse of the Soviet Union. By the way, they planned to sell DON-1500 in the USA. This was in 1991, when the USSR was on the verge of collapse. And American farmers liked Soviet combines. They claimed that the performance of the DON-1500 was 1,35 times higher than that of the then-reference John Deere 7720 Titan II. The only serious complaint is the complexity of the design. Oddly enough, the Soviet combine turned out to be more progressive.
But the best years of DON-1500 are behind us. Only this equipment continues to work in the fields. They are repaired and put back to work. And sometimes they upgrade. So, for example, as in the video on the LandTech channel. The craftsmen managed to put the DON-1500 on a half-track. And now the combine is ideal for working in rice fields. The maneuverability of the equipment has improved. It’s even interesting how the machine operators managed to implement the project. But it turned out exactly what we expected.
