UAZ cars were considered the standard of an SUV. Only it was a long time ago - during the Soviet years. Already at the beginning of the 80s, it became clear that the model range of the Ulyanovsk plant urgently needed updates. On the other hand, the military had enough of such machines. But they were not sold to civilians. Therefore, the manufacturer limited itself to experimental models and countless upgrades. Everything changed in the early 90s, when the USSR collapsed. We had to focus on the civilian market. Of course, they bought UAZs, but not nearly as actively as we would like. Therefore, the “Patriot” appeared - much more modern in appearance. And then they made a commercial model - “Profi”. She had to knock off the Gazelle or at least the Sobol from the Gorky Automobile Plant from the pedestal.
But nothing came of it. Of course, the UAZ Pro is all-wheel drive. This means that it is capable of driving where the Gazelle gets stuck. Moreover, the updated ZMZ engine has definitely become more powerful and dynamic than in Soviet times. And a commercial truck drives like a car. Even the GAZ Sobol does not give such a feeling, much less the Gazelle. But they didn’t guess with the carrying capacity. The UAZ Profi suspension cannot withstand 1,5 tons of cargo. The car drives, but treacherously squats to the stern. It is for this reason that the car did not become popular. And the Gazelle can easily carry two tons with the permitted 1,5.
