Russia is testing the first drone with a "smart" wing
The CEO of M-Industries, which is responsible for the production of a new unmanned tiltrotor, shared information about the stage at which the Vezdelet project is.

According to him, at the moment bench tests of the device have begun, during which an autonomous take-off and landing mode will be worked out, and the automatic control system of the machine will be tested. A prototype cargo drone should be ready for the summer, and flight tests are expected in the fall.

As noted in the representative office of the manufacturer, the new development, due to the presence of a "smart" wing and an autopilot, demonstrates an increased level of safety. The geometry of the wing changes during takeoff/landing, it only opens at a safe altitude.

During the rise and hover of a rotary-wing drone, its propellers are located vertically, which provides enough thrust to keep the device in the air. During horizontal flight, its propellers change position, and the tiltrotor soars due to the lifting force of the wing and impeller.

As for the main characteristics, it is known that the unmanned "air carrier" can carry cargo weighing up to 50 kg. Even when fully loaded, the new device is able to stay in the air for up to an hour and a half. The maximum speed of movement exceeds 100 km/h and is likely to be limited in order to ensure flight safety. At the same time, the height to which the Vezdelet is able to climb is limited to 4000 m.

The tiltrotor will be equipped with 8 rotary electric motors and two wings. The creation of such a device is economically much more profitable than the production of helicopters. Plus, fuel economy, increased service life and the absence of a pilot fully justify the prospects of the project. The demand for such a drone as a delivery driver is obvious, especially in conditions of underdeveloped road infrastructure.
