Chevrolet Suburban 2022 - the largest in the class

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban is a full-size SUV that can comfortably seat up to 9 passengers at a time. Now it is the largest passenger car on the market, and it confidently outshines both its "relative" in the face of the Tahoe, and all the closest competitors, including the popular Lincoln Navigator, Nissan Armada and Jeep Wagoneer.




For decades, Suburbans have been the benchmark for other full-size SUVs. Chevrolet's "light truck" has traditionally been at the top of the charts thanks to its combination of a powerful V8 engine, incredible room for passengers and things, convenience and safety. Can the same be said for the 2022 model?

What's new?

After last year's redesign, Chevrolet added the most powerful motor to the engine lineup. The 6,2-liter V8 is available in LS, LT, Z71, RST, Premier and High Country trim levels. The Z71 off-road-adapted SUV can be equipped with an electronic limited-slip rear differential for better traction in poor pavement.

If you plan on using the Suburban to tow a trailer or motorhome, good news for you too. The machine will receive an additional option in the form of an upgraded towing system with 13 cameras and a transparent projection with an overview of the trailer.

Exterior

The design of the car can not be called something outstanding, besides, it is quite "square" and angular. Given its size and purpose, you can completely close your eyes to this minus. What can really annoy is the wide horizontal grille, which "hates" both insects and headwinds, not having the best effect on aerodynamics. Note that it is visually this element looks good. Interior

When looking at the interior, the first thing that catches your eye is a 12,3-inch touch screen for controlling multimedia and the main systems of the SUV. Another touch-sensitive display is located at the top of the dashboard. It is smaller - 10,2 inches.



The interior of the new Chevrolet Suburban can be described as functional. There are no fanciful and frankly useless details, everything is in its place. The decor is represented mainly by chrome and black plastic, its colors change and contrast against each other.

The power seats are upholstered in fabric. In the configuration above the basic one, the front seats are covered with leather. The High Country specification adds a heated steering wheel and second-row seats, while the front seats get a cooling system that will come in handy in the summer.

Power point

The SUV received the same range of engines as its counterpart in the pickup format, namely the Silverado. The only caveat: there is no base engine Turbo-4, which is found in the “brother” in the initial configuration. A new car can be equipped with one of the following engines:

• ✅ 5,3-liter V8. Standard version with 355 hp. With. Available in all versions.
  
• ✅ 6,2-liter V8. Reinforced version with a capacity of 420 liters. With. Available in RST, Z71 and Premier trim levels.

All trims are available with all-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Security

Due to the average rollover rating, the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban received four out of five stars from the NHTSA. Not a bad result, given the gigantic size and large overhangs of the car. The safety of the SUV operation is provided by systems such as automatic emergency braking, which also responds to pedestrians, as well as active lane control, rear parking sensors.

The model supports the Teen Driver app, which allows the driver to limit distractions when traveling with teenagers. For an additional fee, adaptive cruise control, monitoring of blind spots and a system of 13 cameras for a circular surround view are available.

Comfort

Inside the new Chevrolet Suburban there are three rows of seats, which can comfortably accommodate 9 people in bench mode. This automatically makes the SUV a great choice for family trips. With the standard arrangement of the second and third row seats, 7 passengers will fit in the car. In any configuration, there is enough free space inside the spacious cabin. In the second row, legroom is allocated as much as 106 cm, and in the third 93 cm.



As for roominess, with the third row of seats folded down, the volume available for storing things and equipment increases to an incredible 2656 liters. Even this is not a record yet: if you fold down the second row of seats, 4097 liters of free space are released. This is almost 800 liters more than one of the closest competitors in the face of the Jeep Wagoneer.

About consumption

Looking at the massive Chevrolet Suburban, one involuntarily begins to figure out how huge sums will have to be spent on its regular refueling. And these fears are not far from the truth, because the SUV is designed for spaciousness, and not for efficiency. According to the EPA, with a 8-liter V5,3 engine paired with a 10-speed transmission, the car consumes 15,7 liters per 100 km in city mode, 11,8 liters in the city and 13,8 liters in the case of mixed consumption.

There is also a more interesting 8-liter V6,2 with optional cylinder deactivation. Its consumption is literally 1,5-2 liters higher compared to the figures described above. Almost the same results in terms of consumption are shown by any available V8 engine with all-wheel drive connected.

Price

The base Chevrolet Suburban is available for $52. It includes a 400-inch touchscreen infotainment system, remote control support via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, power front seats, remote engine start, leather steering wheel and USB ports in the cabin. .



In the maximum configuration, the SUV costs more than $77. For this amount, the buyer gets leather upholstery on all seats, air suspension, a 000-liter V6,2 engine, heated and cooled front seats, a surround view system, a 8-inch touch screen and 15-inch wheels. But this is not the limit - with all the premium options packages and exclusive painting, the Suburban will cost almost $ 22.

Conclusions

The new Chevrolet Suburban boasts of its large size and extreme roominess, without looking too unattractive. He is all right in terms of safety and comfort. The only thing that can raise questions is not the most efficient V8 engines, which engineers could replace with more interesting options. All in all, this is a very good choice for a large family that doesn't plan to venture too far off good roads. Let it be an SUV, but you won’t be able to knead deep dirt on it at all.
