IZH motorcycles are well known to everyone who was born and raised in the Soviet Union. These were some of the most common middle class bikes. Station wagons are usually single, but versions with a sidecar sidecar were also offered for household owners. At first, the Izhevsk models were single-cylinder, then they were divided into two families - Planet and Jupiter. In addition to the main bikes, the company also produced cross-country models, which very rarely fell into private hands.
It is believed that the IZH motorcycle plant went bankrupt immediately after the collapse of the USSR. There is some truth in this statement - it has become really difficult to work in the new economic realities. But the company tried to survive for a long time - the last motorcycles rolled off the assembly line in 2008. Of course, they were produced at that time in small batches.
IZH motorcycles are reminiscent of numerous specimens peacefully living out their days in summer cottages and village sheds. As a rule, they are far from the original condition and rarely on the go. But there are enthusiasts who find these bikes and restore them. There are even private museums. You will see such a collection in the video of the author of the channel "RetroIzh - All about Izhevsk Motorcycles". Already by the name it is clear that people are trying to preserve the history of the Soviet plant.
