Updated Mitsubishi Outlander received a turbocharged hybrid engine

Mitsubishi has unveiled a new version of the popular Outlander crossover at the Chengdu Auto Show in China. The main difference between the car and current versions is the turbocharged engine under the hood.


Recall that the Mitsubishi Outlander model for many years was offered only with simple atmospheric power units. Even hybrids were paired with such motors.

The new turbocharged modification of the crossover will be produced at the GAC-Mitsubishi joint venture in China. It will be offered so far only on the domestic market in China. Further plans of the manufacturer are unknown.


Under the hood of the Mitsubishi Outlander will be a four-cylinder turbo engine with a displacement of 1,5 liters, developing 163 hp. With. This is far from a new unit - it is taken from the Eclipse Cross sports crossover and boosted for a heavier model in favor of increased power.
A 48-volt starter-generator will work in tandem with the engine. The gearbox is offered only CVT.

Interestingly, the 4B40 engine is adapted to run on AI-92 low-octane gasoline. For modern engines, this is not typical at all, and even more so for turbocharged ones.

Inside, the updated Mitsubishi Outlander is slightly different from the basic modifications. He has a new multimedia system. You can also note the presence of all-round cameras, even in the basic configuration.

Recall that the latest generation of Mitsubishi Outlander debuted in 2021. The model was late due to the purchase of a third of Mitsubishi's shares by Renault-Nissan.

The new partners decided to unify the Outlander - the engineers had to transfer it to the common CMF-C / D platform. In terms of technical characteristics, the fourth generation Mitsubishi Outlander is close to the Nissan Rogue / X-Trail.


The car turned out to be noticeably larger than its predecessor - the focus on the US market is visible. The model is made in the corporate design of Dynamic Shield.

In China, the turbocharged Mitsubishi Outlander will be offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The manufacturer has already announced that the crossover will be sold in four trim levels. The cost will be revealed a few days before the start of sales.

It is possible that the turbocharged Mitsubishi Outlander will be sold in North America. Recall that the model was originally developed with an eye on the United States and Canada.
