In Soviet times, there were a lot of homemade cars. Why were they so common and so popular? One of the reasons can be called a frankly poor choice among the official models of the Soviet automobile industry. Perhaps, if we take a specific period of time, then the assortment produced at that time could be easily counted on the fingers of the hands. Did this mean that Soviet engineering thought worked very poorly? By no means! Rather, on the contrary, Soviet designers constantly tried to improve something. But many official concept cars appeared under the wing of the experimental laboratories of NAMI and VNIITE. For example, the advanced PT minivan had a convenient wagon-type passenger door and a separate driver's cab. This is what a specialized taxi of the 60s should have looked like from the point of view of the engineers of that time. Testing on the streets of the capital brought positive ratings. However, the release of an experimental batch planned for YerAZ was never implemented. As often happened in the country, officials got involved in the dispute, bringing the efforts of engineers and designers to naught.
