There are fewer real frame SUVs every year. And it's not that manufacturers do not want to release them, rather, on the contrary. It's just that the buyer votes with the ruble for cheaper and more versatile crossovers.


There is no reason to release unprofitable models that can ruin an entire enterprise. Therefore, frame SUVs disappear, despite the moaning of a small cohort of "jeepers". Only the most popular models remain, like the Toyota Land Cruiser, Cadillac Escalade and Mercedes-Benz Gelendwagen.

By some miracle, the modest Nissan Patrol wormed its way into the legends. This massive SUV has been produced since 1951, having changed several generations, but without losing the frame.

Unfortunately, even the brutal Nissan Patrol had to adapt to modern realities. Starting with the sixth generation, which debuted in 2010, the car has become an Americanized SUV. He lost some of his "jeep" chips, but became luxurious and comfortable.

The latest "real" Nissan Patrol is called the car in the back of the Y61. The model debuted in 1997 and is still in production, although since 2014 the car can only be officially purchased in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Not a single diesel engine is able to surprise with dynamics and speed - if you want to move quickly, you should pay attention to gasoline power units. Until 2004, they installed a 4,5-liter engine with 200 hp. With. Then it was replaced by 4,8 with a capacity of 245 hp. With.

Gasoline power units really drive, but they are not encouraging with fuel consumption. In the city, less than 20 liters will definitely not work, and in traffic jams, even 30 per hundred is not the limit.

In terms of reliability, the structurally ancient 4,2 diesel is in the first place. On the second - gasoline engines, not even because they are much worse, but because of the high fuel consumption.

As for diesel engines of 2,8 and 3,0 liters, then how lucky you are with the previous owner. Motors do not like overheating - if this happens, cracks appear on the cylinder head, which is aluminum here.

The all-wheel drive of the Nissan Patrol Y61 is considered reliable, but you should not use it all the time. If you neglect this recommendation, then the chain in the transfer case will quickly stretch. Semi-automatic clutches are also far from eternal, especially if you do not “turn them on” yourself.

Should I mess with the Nissan Patrol Y61? It's hard to advise here. The SUV is really reliable, only it has trouble with the body, but the level of comfort is rather Spartan. You need to understand that this is far from a crossover, and for everyday use in a big city, the model is not very convenient.

But as a travel car, the Nissan Patrol Y61 can be perfect. Of course, it is not as good as the Toyota Land Cruiser 100, but it costs about 50% less. And in terms of the level of brutality, "Patrol" will give odds even to "Kruzak".
