The XNUMXst century has become a time of massive Chinese intervention. This has not bypassed the automotive industry. Inexpensive, but quite high-quality Chinese cars, trucks and buses have long been known all over the world. The models produced by numerous companies of this country and the Russian market have firmly established themselves. But where did it all start?


If we are talking about the Chinese state holding company BAIC Group, then its humble beginnings were laid back in 1958. Although, to be more precise, five years earlier, the “First Automotive Components Factory” was organized in the Chinese capital, which was supposed to serve the already well-known foreign models that were common in the local market.

After more than a quarter of a century of history, the first Chinese joint venture for the production of automotive equipment appeared. The famous American Motors has become a partner of the local BAIC. In the years to come, after changes in employee companies and mutual takeovers, the aforementioned Chinese association of automobile and machine-building plants appeared with a huge staff of more than 130 workers and employees.

SUVs

The first off-road car of this company was the model 212/2020. Its release was launched in 1965 and continued for 40 years. The Chinese jeep appeared thanks to the help of the "big brother" - many of the equipment components were borrowed from our UAZ-469 and the "sixty-ninth" GAZ. The reference to Soviet technology was felt not only inside, but also externally. For a knowing eye, the influence of the UAZ was noticeably felt in the body design, and the engine was completely copied from the UMZ-451. From the "gazik", in turn, the Chinese car received a frame structure and a gearbox.



Over time, it was replaced by the BAW Zhanqi model, designed using components from several generations of American Jeep cars. Today, BAIC Group occupies the fifth position in the Chinese automotive market in terms of total output. At the same time, the number of trucks produced by the Chinese company is the second in the country. It has several subsidiaries at once. Among them, it is worth noting BAIC Motor, which manufactures cars and Changhe, which assembles SUVs and minibuses.

New Budget Frame Baic BJ60 Coming Soon

Recently, a new SUV designed by a Chinese company was presented to the public. This is the Baic BJ60, sometimes referred to as Beijing, after the name of the brand under which jeeps and minibuses are produced. Although all the details of the new model are not yet known, experts have already positively assessed its future prospective demand. Many agree that it is capable of pushing the Tank 500 and Haval H9 on the market. However, the reality of these estimates can only be verified in the near future.



If we dwell on the planned cost of the novelty in more detail, then it is declared in the range of 40-45 thousand dollars. More bold estimates are predicted to become a suitable budget replacement for the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

According to official sources, the new car will go on sale in the summer of 2022. True, some other sites are more restrained in their estimates of the start time for the sale of Baic BJ60 through dealerships. They are sure that it will be possible to carry out this not earlier than at the beginning of autumn. Which of them is right, we will find out very soon. You just need to be patient and wait a little.

The designers tried to create an original design of the new SUV. It seems that the goal was achieved, because no obvious constructive reference to popular brands was noticed. At the same time, it cannot be said that he has any elements of extravagance or excessive futurism in the exterior. On the contrary, everything is very strict and sustained in a classic style. The novelty will have in its arsenal:

✅ daytime running lights for increased passive safety during daylight hours

The latest design improvement will be U-shaped and will be located on the radiator grille, as well as in the main optics of the car. Despite the absence of explicitly copied external elements, the radiator lining resembles the design of American Jeeps, equipped with additional LED lighting. Its lines smoothly transition into DRLs located in the headlights.



The interior of the car can be called ultra-modern. In particular, this conclusion is confirmed by the virtual dashboard available in the arsenal with a projection function on the windshield. As well as a convenient touch screen and a panoramic roof.



The capacity of the jeep will have two options: for 5 people and a more spacious 7-seater saloon. In the second case, a three-row seating arrangement is provided. By the way, this design sends us back several decades, when it was the Chinese specialists who tried to create a station wagon with increased capacity.

Judging by the declared prospective size of the track autonomy of 1000 km, we can conclude that a huge and roomy car will, moreover, be quite economical. A nice bonus is the now popular hybrid power plant. The estimated acceleration time of the budget frame to “hundreds” is around 6 seconds.

Features and dimensions of the model

Like a true Jeep, the spare tire is located on the back door. This solution is not only practical and aesthetically pleasing, but also allowed to increase the interior space of the luggage compartment. 256-color interior lighting and climate control also contribute to greater interior comfort in addition to volume. The last function can be configured differently for the three sectors into which the internal space is divided.



The brand of engines with which they intend to equip the SUV is still kept secret in order to further stir up interest in the new product. It is only known that there will be several petrol variants and one hybrid.

Of course, among the mandatory features, there is an all-wheel drive with a reduction gear. The car will have a 5-meter length and a base of 2820 mm. You can also add independent suspension to all wheels with 20-inch alloy wheels and a differential lock.

Will Baic BJ60 be seen in Russia?

Everything described above, including excellent parameters and indicators, seems to make the model more than attractive. And if we add to this the efficiency of the engine and an affordable price, then a very rosy picture emerges. But, the last and most important question remains: will this model appear on free sale on the territory of the Russian Federation?



While there is no exact answer to it, but everything is possible. After all, Chinese companies are not yet in a hurry to fully support the imposed global sanctions. If this happens, then many are sure that the Baic BJ60 is capable of becoming a "killer" of the eternally popular "UAZ". Most likely, in the coming months, the situation with this issue should become clearer.
