Cars of the Moskvich brand will be revived - the decision was made at the government level

The Renault plant, located in Moscow, is going to revive cars of the Moskvich brand. In the near future, they want to launch the production of passenger cars under this brand.


This is not another tale or fiction of independent designers who do not understand anything in the automotive industry. This was announced today by the mayor of Moscow. It turns out that the matter is settled, although it is still difficult to say what exactly the new Moskvich will be. Most likely, the same Frets from AvtoVAZ, at least at first.

The Renault plant was taken to the balance of Moscow. The city's leadership is going to gradually establish the production of cars. They want to achieve maximum localization through cooperation with the KAMAZ plant - they have all the technical capabilities to produce the necessary parts. The revived Moskvich is planned to be made domestic, as it was historically.



The Moscow plant for the production of small cars has been operating since 1930. Then it was called KIM, then it was renamed several times. In the early 1990s, production volumes declined catastrophically.

In 1998, Renault bought one AZLK workshop, completed its construction and organized the assembly of the legendary Renault Logan car already in Russia.

After the introduction of a number of economic sanctions against the Russian Federation, the Renault concern expressed a desire to leave our market. It is clear that such a decision was not easy for the manufacturer. But under pressure from Western politicians, the leadership of the French enterprise had to give in.

Renault tried to sell a controlling stake, there were rumors that the Chinese would buy it. But in the end, 68% were transferred by US for a symbolic price of 1 ruble. This is not nationalization, but a way to provide Russian citizens with cars.



The management of Renault has been offered more than once to continue working, but businessmen simply cannot go against the policy of France, no matter how much they would like to. Renault has the opportunity to buy back its shares over the next 6 years for the same symbolic ruble, but with one condition.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the Russian side plans to invest in the development of an automobile plant. All repair and upgrade costs will be added to the value of Renault's assets. That is, every penny invested in the development of the enterprise will be added to this symbolic 1 ruble.

Renault cars are not planned to be produced at the Moscow plant. They can return only after the French concern buys back the enterprise.
