Top 5 coolest cars in movies

Top 5 coolest cars in movies
With the advent of sound, and then color, cars in cinema began to be given individual features, and even made of them as assistants to the main characters. The first thing that comes to mind is Herbie's funny bug: a Volkswagen Beetle that helps the owner win races. Of course, Herbie was not alone, and today you will find a selection of interesting cars from the world of cinema.

Ford Falcon XB GT Hardtop, from the Mad Max film series, also known as the Pursuit Special

According to Bari's police mechanic, this is "the last V8 interceptor." The car was equipped with an eight-cylinder engine with a mechanical supercharger. And this "meat grinder" on the hood has become a symbol of the car! According to the same Barry, the car is equipped with a 600 “horses” engine that consumes fuel in intentional quantities. In order to move around the wastelands, the Pursuit Special was additionally equipped with two fuel tanks of forty gallons each. That is, the total supply of gasoline in Mad Max's car is three hundred liters.

The future black "Interceptor" Ford Falcon XB GT351 began life in 1973 as a white hardtop, with a 8-liter or 5,77 cubic-inch "Cleveland" V351 engine with 260 horsepower and a four-speed Hurst manual transmission. The film crew got this Ford from a police impound lot, where the director spotted it while buying old Ford sedans for Max Rockatansky and the crew of the Big Bopper.

In the process of making the film, the white Falcon was repainted in an "ominous" black color, as well as:

✅ changed the front part of the body and wheel arches
✅ added roof spoiler
✅ eight exhaust pipes.
✅ But most importantly, we installed an engine with a four-barrel Holley carburetor and a Weiand 6-71 drive supercharger.

In the first part of the franchise, this "hood grinder" that sold such a distinctive appearance to the "special pursuer" was pure props, and was powered by an electric drive. But in the second part of the film, the director insisted on authenticity, so the supercharger was connected to the motor. The result was 600 "horses" - which made the "Pursuit Special" a worthy conqueror of the Wasteland!

Finding an XB Falcon for sale today is nearly impossible. Rare examples for sale are worth upwards of $150, making the XB Falcon GT one of the rarest and most expensive classic muscle cars in the world.

1967 Chevrolet Impala Hardtop from Supernatural

"Baby" Dean Winchester - winner of the "squeaky car doors" in the world. Just kidding, but there was no other film like this artistic squeak! The Black Impala, until the opening of the Enlightened bunker by the brothers, was the main residence of the Winchesters and part-time armory. The trunk of this Chevrolet is a real arsenal of all kinds of weapons! However, not only weapons: once Dean Winchester drove the king of hell Crowley there for a whole series. The car appeared in the Winchester family in 1973, after the unborn Dean convinced his father to buy this Impala instead of a Volkswagen. Here is a time paradox.

"Baby" was used by the scum hunter brothers throughout the series, with a few exceptions. After "acquaintance" with the leviathans, several series of Winchesters were forced to move on other cars, as their "clones" committed crimes while driving around America on an exact copy of the Impala. According to Jensen Ackles, under the hood of the "Kids" is a V8 "Turbo-Fire" engine with a displacement of 5,4 liters. Equipped with a four-barrel Rochester carburetor, this engine developed 275 horsepower. But according to other sources, under the hood of the Impala was a "big block" of 7.4 liters and 340 horses.

If before the filming of the Supernatural series began, such an Impala was sold for $ 500, now the price for well-preserved or restored copies ranges from $ 20 to $ 000.

White Western Star 4800 "Happy Toyz" 1977 release: "Green Goblin" from the movie "Maximum Acceleration"

The White Western Star 4800 truck that participated in the filming is equipped with an eight-cylinder two-stroke Detroit Diesel 8V71T diesel engine with a displacement of 9.3 liters and a power of 320 horsepower.

Not much, but according to reviews from truckers who worked on such “trucks,” the two-stroke diesel pulled very well!

Pontiac Firebird Trans AM, from Smokey and the Bandit

This two hundred horsepower 6.6 liter car was used by the Bandit to divert attention from the contraband cargo of 400 cases of Kors beer transported by his friend Snowman in a wagon. In the course of the film, the hero of Burt Reynolds constantly gets into trouble with the police, which leads to numerous chases. The most stubborn was Sheriff Buffard Tee Justice, who, by the way, also drives a Pontiac car. But thanks to the faithful "Trans Em", the Bandit manages to emerge from numerous chases as a winner.

After the release of this film, it turned out that it became a great advertisement for the Pontiac Firebird! Two years after the film's release, the production of the Trans-Am modification skyrocketed from 68 to 117 vehicles a year, and Firebird's total production reached 1980: excellent product placement! As sales were so strong, Pontiac decided to push back the third generation model originally planned for 1978. But since 1979 and 1982 were record years for Pontiac, the release of the new model was postponed: the third generation Firebird was introduced in XNUMX, two years later than planned.

By the way, remember the episode when the Bandit is bargaining with Enos Burdette Jr., saying that he will have to add money, since the car must be: "very fast." So, in fact, the 200 "horses" of this Firebird were not enough to perform tricks, and the car was equipped with nitrous oxide injection. Deciding that the sound of the 6.6-liter engine was not "cool and intimidating" enough, the director decided to re-sound the Pontiac with the sound of a 1955 Chevrolet Custom engine.

1969 Dodge Charger, with the Confederate flag on the roof

This car, unlike the previous ones, is easily identified “by voice”: Dixie Horn - this is the name of the “General Lee” signal. The motif is taken from the Confederate song "I Wish I Was in Dixie" - the unofficial anthem of the southern states of the United States.

Specifications: Engine: Dodge "Hemi" displacement of 7,2 liters, or 440 cubic inches. This engine develops 375 horsepower at 4400 rpm. allowed "General Lee" to accelerate to 96 miles per hour in 6,5 seconds. Such dynamics helped the brothers Bo and Luke Dukes to deliver moonshine on this car and avoid police pursuit. The dimensions of the car are just as impressive:

✅ Length 5283 - seven centimeters more than the "Boar", Mercedes-Benz W140 in the "long" version.
✅ Width: 1946
✅ Height: 1351

Of course, not all “cool” cars from the world of cinematography got into our selection - it’s impossible to embrace the immensity! But, perhaps, the cars from our top 5 are the best as a weekend car. On any of these cars, you are guaranteed to be the center of attention of others!
