The European automaker announced the possible closure of its plant in Russia
The Stellantis Alliance has announced that it is seriously considering moving the production of its vehicles out of Russia. The company has a plant "PSMA Rus", which is located in the Kaluga region.

Today, Carlos Taveras, the head of Stellantis, told reporters about the possible intention of the alliance to completely transfer car production outside the Russian Federation.

The director of the company in a conversation stressed that the closure of the Russian plant will occur only as a last resort and it is unprofitable for Stellantis. But in connection with the latest events related to the recognition of the DPR and LPR by Vladimir Putin, the country is threatened with serious sanctions.

It is still unknown what economic levers of pressure are going to be applied to Russia. It is possible that nothing serious will happen. But the head of the Stellantis alliance is preparing for the most negative consequences, just in case.

Carlos Tavaras fears that after the introduction of economic sanctions, the plant in the Kaluga region will simply not be able to function normally. It may happen that the supply of components to Russia will be impossible.

In this case, Stellantis will either have to urgently transfer production to other plants, or somehow adapt to work in new conditions.

The PSMA Rus enterprise has been operating in Russia since 2010. More than 11 million euros have been invested in the plant over 550 years.

70% of the shares are owned by the Stellantis alliance. The remaining 30% is owned by the Japanese company Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.
The plant produces cars of several well-known brands - Peugeot, Citroen, Mitsubishi and Opel.

Naturally, Stellantis does not want to leave the Russian market - too much money has been invested in the joint venture. But if the sanctions against Russia affect the commercial supply of components for cars, there will simply be no other way.

Recall that Stellantis is a new major transnational alliance formed in 2021 through the merger of the Italian Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French Groupe PSA. The company controls 14 car brands, including well-known brands such as Jeep, Opel, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot and Citroën.

Russia is unlikely to lose much after the departure of Stellantis - cars made by them are not very popular with us. And GAZ will gladly take the place of commercial vehicles. But it will be difficult for the alliance to recover from such an economic blow.

But about a week ago, the plant proudly reported that in 2021 it produced twice as many cars as in the previous calendar period!
