The assembly of the PTK NP "Orel" has reached the final stage

Initially, the new spacecraft was called “Federation”. According to the designers of RSC Energia named after. S.P. Korolev, this reusable ship is capable of carrying up to 6 cosmonauts and 500 kg of payload. Transport was planned as a key element of logistics in the preparation of the lunar program, could connect the earth and lunar orbits, but circumstances changed.


Now the shuttle is planned to be used as transport for delivering astronauts to the Russian orbital station ROS. It does not exist at the moment; it will begin to be assembled from modules in 2027. The supply of fuel and oxygen on board the new Orel shuttle will allow it to remain autonomous for up to 30 days. The launch into orbit will be carried out using the Angara-A5P, landing by parachute.


The test flight of the Federation was supposed to take place back in 2015, but it didn’t work out. The deadlines have been postponed to 2028, the project has changed its name. The estimated cost of developing and building the first flight model is estimated at about 58 billion rubles.
