Sales of a special version of the Hyundai Sonata for taxi drivers have started

Hyundai has announced the start of sales of a new car. It was the revived Sonata performed by Taxi. Although the model was removed from the production line, complaints from South Korean taxi drivers did their job. They decided to revive the car, having previously updated it.


Of course, there are not enough taxi drivers in South Korea to restart production of a model that has already been removed from the assembly line. Therefore, we took advantage of the help of our Chinese partners.

Let us remind you that there is a joint Beijing-Hyundai plant in China. The Sonata business class sedan is still produced there for the local market. It is this company that makes modifications for taxi drivers.


The funny thing is that the car will not be sold in China. It is intended for disgruntled South Korean taxi drivers. The car turned out to be 20% cheaper than the standard Sonata and at the same time 35 mm longer.

They are asking 22,54 million won (1,52 million rubles) for the updated Hyundai Sonata Taxi. Such a low cost of the car, equipped, by the way, with special lighting and a sign on the roof for working in a taxi, was achieved for a number of reasons. But they can be combined in one word - savings.

The car is equipped with a simple engine. This is a two-liter naturally aspirated engine with a power of 146 hp. But even this power unit has its own “trick”. It is designed to operate on liquefied propane gas.

The latter allows taxi drivers to save their own money when refueling the car. Accordingly, they can earn more per shift. This is also a plus for companies involved in transporting passengers. After all, they will be able to attract more drivers to their ranks. Many people will want to get into economical cars. So it will even be possible to choose from several candidates.

The lengthening of the body of the Hyundai Sonata Taxi is made by increasing the “living space” for rear row passengers. The car received wear-resistant seat upholstery. The tires were developed specifically for taxis.

The Hyundai Sonata Taxi has an automatic six-speed transmission. It is simple and reliable. There are no manual transmissions or robots.


Despite the conservative options, the car's safety for passengers is fine. The basic package includes as many as 9 AirBags.

By the way, the heads of Hyundai car dealerships in South Korea are not very happy about the appearance of the Sonata Taxi. After all, these cars are made in China. Even taking into account transportation, they are cheaper than locally produced cars.

But Hyundai assures that this is a one-time promotion specifically for taxi drivers. There will be no other models produced by Beijing-Hyundai in the country.
