The new Moskvich car is being prepared for production - it will be the flagship of the line

The Moskvich automobile plant is about to launch production of a new model. We are talking about the largest crossover in the line. It will be offered as Moskvich 8. Representatives of the company revealed the design of the car.


However, talking about production is a little wrong. Like other Muscovites, the new crossover is a model from JAC. In fact, the car is a complete copy of the X8 Plus, only with different nameplates.

The model is quite well known in China. JAC X8 Plus debuted in 2022 and is still on sale. The manufacturer claims that the car is new. But, if you understand the origin, it turns out that the crossover was created on the chassis of the regular JAC X8. And this model went on sale in 2020.


By the way, previously in the Celestial Empire cars were offered under the Sehol sub-brand. But then JAC decided to abandon it so as not to completely confuse potential buyers.

In fact, the JAC X8 Plus is a restyling of the regular X8. Externally, it features a redesigned front and rear. New optics, bumpers, and radiator grille appeared. But from the sides the cars can be confused.

No one makes a secret of the fact that Moskvich 8 is the “brother” of the JAC X8 Plus. But they don’t talk about this on every corner. The manufacturer, or rather the assembler, remains tactfully silent.

In terms of dimensions, Moskvich 8 can be classified as a mid-size crossover, located at the upper limit of the class. The length of the car is more than 4,82 meters. It turns out that the model is comparable to the South Korean Kia Sorento, which was once in strong demand in Russia.

Representatives of the Moskvich plant said that the new crossover will be equipped with a turbocharged gasoline engine with a power of 174 hp. It was not specified what its volume was. But to find out, you don’t even need to carry out the simplest investigation. Just open the technical specifications of the JAC X8 Plus.

And there we have only one engine in the line - with a volume of 1,5 liters. True, the power is greater - 184 “horses”. It seems that the Chinese have finally adapted the model for Russia. Since the engine was derated, maybe they did an improved anti-corrosion treatment.


The Moskvich 8 will only have a seven-speed robotic gearbox. A version with “mechanics” has not been announced for Russia, but in China, by the way, it is available.

There will most likely not be all-wheel drive. After all, the JAC X8 Plus does not have such a version, even in the “top” configuration.

How much they will ask for Moskvich 8 has not yet been announced.
