Initially, the very concept of “jeep” included a brutal semi-truck with incredible cross-country ability, driven by a dashing cowboy across the prairies. Or something similar. But everything flows and changes. Sometimes beyond recognition.


Likewise, today's SUVs often receive the prefix “SUV”, which includes mainly urban use. Moreover, the general trend of drive electrification has left its mark on the development of this category of cars.


Therefore, today you won’t surprise anyone with a city electric jeep, which in fact would hardly be able to confidently drive outside a populated area or on real off-road conditions. Nevertheless, such cars receive all the external distinctive equipment, in general, everything necessary, which is often called in one precise word - “show-off”.

The above description may seem unflattering, but it is entirely appropriate to the situation. And, in the end, why does a modern resident of a metropolis (who almost never leaves it in his car) need any super-driving qualities? Enough impressive appearance, gloss and good filling. And for someone else, the affordable price of the issue is also important.



The efforts of manufacturers to please the maximum number of future consumers were unexpectedly highly appreciated at a specialized competition. When the model was announced as the “European Auto 2023” last January, many eyebrows raised surprisingly. How did this modest front-wheel drive electric jeep win over the members of the strict jury?

Let us first mention that it is important that the electric drive is in trend today. Therefore, all four candidates who reached the final selection had a set of batteries under the hood. But each of the remaining three (for example, Nissan Ariya) had a much more significant set of characteristics. And yet, the winner was the Jeep Avenger, which has a number of weaknesses:

✅ lack of all-wheel drive
✅ not suitable for travel and long trips
✅ not enough space in the second row

The car is a far cry from the ruggedly built and reliable touring models of the recent past. The Jeep Avenger is elegant and not devoid of chic. But even after receiving a high award, certain weaknesses remained, primarily with regard to the drive.

Adding a petrol version

Indeed, in terms of its parameters and affordable price, the car was largely aimed at the less wealthy region of Central and Eastern Europe. And here the conservative positions are also quite strong (as in Russia). Which say: now is definitely not the time to completely say goodbye to the internal combustion engine.


So the initial statement that we will deal only with an electric car, without much publicity, has undergone a certain transformation. Very quickly, “without noise and dust,” the gasoline version of the Avenger also entered the above-mentioned market.

The use of internal combustion engines not only satisfied conservative customers, it also contributed to a noticeable reduction in the price of the final product. In addition, there is also the possibility of a compromise in the form of a modification with a hybrid power plant. The automatic transmission version made it a much more attractive product for many potential customers. Here's what some of the characteristics of the new equipment looked like:

If a modern car should appeal to the typical Central European, then with the Avenger Jeep the manufacturer hit the nail on the head. Even the image of an astronomer on the windshield and images of stars on the opposite side create a unique and pleasant atmosphere.


The direction given is also complemented by the view of the mountain range behind the wiper and the original Willys nameplate in the front of the bumper. The composition is completed by Jeep moldings on the inside of the trunk and a ladybug on the roof.

Avenger internal filling

They tried to develop the theme of a brutal SUV well in the interior of the car. There is a classic straight instrument panel, complemented by a storage compartment located to the right of the display. Once you get inside, you get the feeling of being in a typical jeep. It is well fueled by ample interior space in the front, a high seating position and plenty of storage compartments and compartments.

The graphics of the alarm clocks with outlines are also pleasing to the eye, as is the simple concept of the information system that works with customizable widgets. After all, the identical scheme of icons and icons on the desktop is now used in mobile phones. Thanks to this, Avenger's multimedia is quite clear and the main page is immediately easy to navigate.


In addition, the manufacturer did not forget about physical buttons, so you can adjust the air conditioner by pressing the selectors. Unlike some of the Avenger's sister models, which are controlled only via the touch screen. Overall, the dashboard is typical for the Jeep line and is not devoid of practicality. It is worth adding a few more elements to what has already been listed:

The musical accompaniment is the icing on the cake. No, we are not talking about a built-in center at all, but about duplicating the direction indicator. When you turn it on, each time you hear a sound reminiscent of a combination of a human heartbeat and the ticking of a mechanical watch.

There are also some disadvantages. The car's chassis is comfortable, but not soundproofed enough. The work of the suspension is clearly felt in the cabin, and on bad roads it will be just a concert of damping. There is nothing to be done; the use of a torsion-type rear axle made it possible to significantly save on production costs and reduce the final price of the product. But the not very powerful engine itself does its job perfectly, and fuel consumption in the region of 6-6,5 liters per 100 km cannot but please.

One way or another, Jeep managed to do something that surprised almost everyone. On a medium platform with the same technologies, create a beautiful and stylish car with many advantages. It's nice to look at, practical, roomy, drives well, has reasonable fuel consumption and even the chassis doesn't deviate from the expected standard.


In terms of price, the basic version with a three-cylinder engine and manual transmission starts at $21, and the mild hybrid version with an automatic transmission will require an additional three thousand. A pure electric SUV with a range of up to 370 km will cost almost twice as much - $400. What if you wanted something special? We'll have to wait, the offer will soon be replenished with a 38×es hybrid version with all-wheel drive.
