The joint brand of BYD and Mercedes-Benz showed a competitor to the Porsche Panamera
Denza, a joint venture of the well-known companies BYD and Mercedes-Benz, presented the Z9 GT sports coupe in Europe. The model is positioned as a direct competitor to the Porsche Panamera.

This is one of the few times when the Chinese (albeit jointly with the Germans) show a car first in Europe. In China, the car will be demonstrated only on April 25 at the next auto show in Beijing. The sports coupe will go on sale first in its homeland, and only then on the European market.

There are still few technical details regarding the new product. The car was first spotted at the end of 2023 in the immediate vicinity of BYD's headquarters.

Today we know the official name of the sports coupe (Z9 GT) and there are several photos published on the brand’s social networks. It’s too early to discuss the design, since a considerable part of the appearance is hidden under camouflage.

Features that are already noticeable include a sporty spoiler at the rear of the roof and hidden door handles. They are flush with the body and slide out when in use.

Since the company showed photos of the Z9 GT against the background of its competitor Porsche Panamera, we can draw conclusions about the size of the new product. It is noticeable that its dimensions are almost the same. We remind you that the car from Porsche has dimensions of 5049x1937x1427 mm and a wheelbase of 2950 mm.

It is not yet clear what will power the sports car. However, the car was previously called a PHEV, which means there will be both electric motors and an internal combustion engine. In addition, information was received from the Denza CEO that the model successfully passed the “moose test” with an average speed of 90 km/h.

Denza company was opened in 2010. 50% belongs to the Chinese brand BYD, and the rest to the German Mercedes-Benz. Engineers from China are responsible for the technical part, while the design development efforts are taken from the European brand.

Although initially Mercedes-Benz had exactly 50% in the joint venture, in 2021 the share decreased by 5 times due to low sales. With MB almost completely out of business, BYD stepped up efforts to work on the Denza range.

At the beginning of 2024, the brand's cars are represented by such models as the N7 and T8 crossovers, and the D9 minivan. Thus, the Z9 GT will become the fourth car of the joint venture.
