The Pope's unique Fiat 500L car will be auctioned

At one of the car auctions, a very interesting lot appeared: a Fiat 500L, and not an ordinary one, but the same one that Pope Francis visited New York. The unique vehicle will likely be sold for up to $100000. At least that's the plan.


According to official information, the car in question was provided by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and was used by the Pope for a very short time. As photos from the trip show, Francis arrived on Fifth Avenue in this car in 2015 and then moved into a specially modified Jeep.


Following the Pope's visit to New York, the seemingly unremarkable car was used in the 2016 St. Patrick's Day Parade. Then the car's first participation in the auction took place - it was put up by the archdiocese in favor of Catholic actions aimed at charity.

The car went under the hammer for $82000, which at the current exchange rate is about 7,58 million rubles. Not surprising - in addition to exclusive use, the car has extremely low mileage. The mechanical odometer on the dashboard shows only 1244 km.

Since we are talking about the 500L in the maximum Lounge configuration, the car can be found in leather front seats with a heating system and dual-zone climate control. The information system, called Uconnect, is controlled from a 6,5-inch touchscreen in the center of the dash.


According to the specifications, this particular model should be equipped with an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a very good 6-speaker audio system in the cabin.

The so-called Popemobile is powered by a 1,4-liter turbocharged engine producing 160 hp. s., developing 250 N*m of torque. It operates in tandem with a 6-speed automatic transmission. All the power of the four-cylinder engine is transmitted exclusively to the front wheels.

Although the Pope did not perform any miracle for sales of the Fiat 500L, this example is planned to be auctioned for at least $50000, although they are counting on twice that amount.


It is reported that the body of this model is painted in metallic gray with black and chrome accents. The vehicle will be transferred to the new owner with the previous title listing the Catholic Archdiocese of New York as the owner.
