MTZ has launched mass production of unique vehicles for firefighters

The Minsk Tractor Plant began mass production of the specialized machine BELARUS TL-120. This equipment is intended for use in forestry – primarily for extinguishing fires.


This is a full-fledged tractor, although in appearance it is similar to the old Soviet GAZ-66, only with a specific cab. The car is all-wheel drive, two-axle. Features high cross-country ability.

Let us remember that a similar tractor was created back in the 90s. This chassis was called SHA-406. It was intended primarily for public utilities, but also found application in forestry.


A new model on the SHA-406 “trolley” was presented in December 2023. This was the first experimental BELARUS TL-120 tractor. Until now, the machine has been tested, both factory and in real conditions, with potential customers. And now mass production of the model has started.

The tractor cabin was originally modified for use in the forest. It has an external safety frame made of a rectangular pipe. The glass here is huge, with special metal bars. This helps protect the driver and equipment from branches and even small falling trees.

The cabin has almost panoramic glazing. Only the back wall is blank.

After testing at the Minsk Tractor Plant, it was decided that the serial TL-120 should be equipped with special tires. Initially, the model was put on car wheels. But in the forest you need more specific tires. Therefore, the BELARUS TL-120 is equipped with tractor tires as standard.

The new model is universal. At the front there is a mount for various types of blades. A water tank will be installed on the firefighting modification chassis itself. There is a mount for a plow at the back. With its help, a forest fire strip is created.

BELARUS TL-120 has a powerful frame. The car has a diesel engine. This is the popular MMZ D-245.2 power unit. Engine volume is 4,75 liters. The power is small - 122 hp. With. But this is a tavern engine; its priority is traction at low speeds.


The gearbox of BELARUS TL-120 is mechanical. It is also a tractor, with 14 forward speeds and 4 reverse gears. There is an overdrive gearbox and even a speed reducer.

The car has plug-in all-wheel drive. The front axle can be forcibly activated, but it also has automatic operation. It turns on 4x4 mode if the rear wheels start to slip.

The maximum speed of BELARUS TL-120 is 50 km/h. The technology is quite specific, so the cost of the model will be calculated individually.
