It seems that the years when Moskvich cars were considered modern ended with the appearance of the first Zhiguli. Before this, quite stylish models were made in the capital, oriented, among other things, for export. And how many prototypes there were! Unfortunately, they remained in single copies. At first it was believed that the current model range was sufficient. Then the funding was redirected to the Volzhsky Automobile Plant. Let them develop, they say. AZLK can handle it too! And new models are not needed. “Zhiguli” will now be exported, but people will still buy “Muscovites”!
Some of the most interesting cars were coupes. At first they were made for racing. But Moskvich-408 “Tourist” was planned for production. This is a stylish convertible. Realizing that such cars were not suitable for the Soviet Union, except perhaps in the Crimea and other resorts, a removable plastic roof was developed for them. And the model itself received an aluminum body. In the late 90s, the idea of producing a stylish sports car was returned to at Moskvich OJSC. And they gave out models of the “Duet” series. It is believed that only 15 copies were collected. Moreover, more than a dozen were performed by Duet-2. They were simplified and, accordingly, cheaper. And they will talk about this unique model on the channel “Ivan Zenkevich PRO cars”.
