The Soviet period, especially Brezhnev times, was characterized by a high level of all kinds of cargo transportation. Moreover, they occurred as in the so-called. on a macro scale (by trains or cargo ships), and on a micro scale – by pickup trucks and even less powerful vehicles. The latter type can easily be classified as cargo scooters. If the regular “Ant” was distinguished, first of all, by its three-wheeled design and a body in place of the second passenger seat, then the special modifications looked much more advanced. They were manufactured at specialized enterprises almost piecemeal and using manual assembly. Those who happened to live during that period can remember the unusual covered three-wheeled microtrucks for delivering one-time shipments of goods.
Such transport, even equipped with a cabin with a passenger door, could be used to deliver baby food to specialized institutions from remote catering units. They could also be used as a means of delivering mini-lots of goods to very small retail outlets. The advantage of cargo scooters is their convenient operation: easy maintenance, low fuel consumption, and for the driver it is enough to have a category “A” license. Of course, it also had its weaknesses, especially limitations in the amount of cargo transported. You can learn more about how this amazing transport came about from the video from the AVTO MOTO TV channel.
