Indian tractors are assembled in Chuvashia instead of Italian ones

It is unlikely that most people are aware that the Volzhsky Tractor Plant (VTZ) is located in Cheboksary, the capital of Chuvashia. In 2021, the management of the enterprise concluded an agreement with representatives of the company SAME Deutz-Fahr. Experts from Italy pledged to help establish the production of agricultural machinery. But as soon as sanctions pressure began, all agreements were immediately torn apart.


But the enterprise in Cheboksary was already ready to produce tractors and therefore remained in an unclear state. And so it turned out that the Chuvash turned to India, which its neutral position in politics allows it not to pay attention to such “little things” as sanctions.


The “savior” of the plant in Cheboksary was the company International Tractors Limited - or briefly: ITL. What kind of manufacturer is it, what cars does it produce and why did you choose it?

About ITL

In its country, it is a leading concern engaged in the development and manufacture of tractors. It has a huge customer base of 12 million (!) people and an extensive dealer network in the world, numbering 1800 points. ITL today is the only manufacturer from India represented in twenty countries of South and Latin America. The concern also has its branches in 33 European countries and Africa.


However, here we are talking about his company Sonalika Tractors, which produces agricultural machinery and equipment under the Solis brand (translated from Latin as “sun”).


This manufacturer is best known in the world for its small and medium-sized tractors, from 16 to 75 horsepower. Although the company’s model line includes cars with 90, 107, 117 and 125 hp. With. Each tractor has several configuration options and is named according to the above parameter. For example, Solis 26 series.

How Sonalika Tractors positions its products

The emphasis is on cooperation with the Japanese company Yanmar (founded more than a century ago), which is a well-known manufacturer of agricultural equipment in its country (and not only). From here, as a consequence, ITL draws a conclusion about the appropriate quality of its products. The second important positive point is a large dealer network: that is, there will be no problems with maintenance and spare parts.

Results of cooperation

In Russia, Indian tractors are produced under the Agromash brand. As it turned out, the manufacturer from Chuvashia was most interested in Indian cars with a capacity of 75 and 90 “horses”.


The first model “lit up” in the spring of last year at the TatAgroExpo-2023 exhibition. Some technical data of the tractor:

The tractor has all-wheel drive, a power take-off shaft, and power steering. Already now you can buy or lease a couple of models presented on the official website of the company. These are “Agromash 75TK” and “Agromash 90TK”. The first one can be bought for 2 million 928 thousand rubles, the second – 2 million 858 thousand rubles.


It is expected that by 2031, at least 16 thousand units of equipment will roll off the factory assembly line. At the same time, there will be a gradual localization of production.
