100 km of range on one charge is considered an excellent result. But this is only good for urban use. Going somewhere long distance is already a problem. Moreover, motorcycles are valued because they help you get to places where a car cannot go.
And if there are no “four-wheelers”, then what’s the point of creating infrastructure for them? So it turns out that the destiny of rare electric bikes is for entertaining “rides” and city trips.

But now with the ZERO DSR/X 2023 motorcycle, everything has changed. The manufacturer claims a power reserve of 290 km. And even if it’s a little less, it’s already similar to the mileage on one tank of some gasoline models.
Perspectives in Russia
Let's start with whether ZERO DSR/X can count on popularity in our country. And here you can say a firm “no” without hesitation.
There are many reasons:
✅ Our new motorcycles are too expensive, unless they are Chinese models
✅ Electric bikes are generally not popular
✅ The network of charging stations is not developed
ZERO DSR/X is declared as a full-fledged enduro. Motorcycles of this type are popular in Russia, but certainly not electric.
But someone will definitely buy a similar bike from us. Of course, these will be single sales. Potential clients are rich people who have several motorcycles of different classes in their garage. They may purchase ZERO DSR/X out of curiosity, nothing more.

Young IT specialists who have no experience riding a motorcycle will also be interested in electric bikes. This is the embodiment of new technologies!
By the way, the cost of an electric bike in the USA is 24,5 thousand dollars (2,22 million rubles). It’s immediately clear that even if the gasoline model is great, it won’t be popular in Russia.
What's new?
The 2023 ZERO DSR/X is in fact a new motorcycle and not a revision of the 2016 model. The manufacturer has rethought the essence, and it’s not even that the bike began to look like a classic touring bike. The motorcycle was recreated, starting with the frame, which is now trellis, ending with a powerful battery.
It is worth noting that in its basic version the new ZERO DSR/X looks more like a sports touring motorcycle. But if you replace the alloy wheels with spokes and add panniers, it will immediately turn into a typical tourenduro.

Of course, you will have to pay extra for the extras. If you want to save money, saddlebags can be purchased from a third-party manufacturer.
Engine and range
Now even people who are very far from electric vehicles know that their power can be almost unlimited. There are no problems putting an engine of even a thousand hp on a motorcycle. With. Only it will be huge, and the bike will be correspondingly heavy.
And there are issues with the battery - a motorcycle is not a car, for it an extra hundred kilograms can become critical. But ZERO DSR/X has no special problems with this. The engine power of the model is 100 hp. With. Not a sportbike, of course, but suitable for a touring bike.

And the most important thing is the power reserve. Even in the basic version it is 290 kilometers. And if you fork out for an additional Power Tank battery, which is optional, then the power reserve will increase to 350 km.
Planting and equipment
The manufacturer declared its model in the tourist class for a reason. It is really convenient for long-distance “produbas”. The seat gives the rider comfort due to its low position and depth.
The passenger, however, was not so lucky. Its place is almost flat, the recess is rather nominal. The only good thing is the back, the role of which is played by one of the walls of the central trunk. The latter, by the way, comes as an option for an additional fee.
The standard seat height is 82,8 cm. If this is not enough or too much for someone, don’t despair. The manufacturer optionally offers to order a high or low seat.

The off-road ground clearance of the motorcycle is 246 mm. This means that you can conquer uncharted spaces. In theory, of course. In fact, going to the same Mongolian steppes on this motorcycle is a death sentence even with an additional battery. Unless you take with you a cart with charging solar panels.
The creators of ZERO DSR/X did not deviate from the traditional forms of bikes. There's even a pseudo-gas tank. By the way, it is wider and longer than before. Naturally, there is no fuel inside. This is a luggage compartment of 28 liters as standard.
For an additional fee, a separate “fast” charger can be placed in the tank. It's called Rapid Charger. If you use this device, the “refueling” time will be reduced from two to one hour.
For travel enthusiasts, it is better to order an additional Power Tank battery. Plus, 60 kilometers will definitely not be superfluous.

Although, if you install another battery, this may negatively affect the behavior of the motorcycle. Firstly, it will become noticeably heavier. Secondly, the battery will be too high. This will ruin the ideal weight distribution of the ZERO DSR/X. Such a motorcycle can be dropped if you tilt it a little more.
The LCD display is also worth noting. It allows you to select driving modes. The screen itself is easy to read even in sunny weather.
By the way, if you don’t like the standard engine settings in different modes, they are redone. To do this, you only need a smartphone and a special program. Then you will have to independently load all your “creativity” into the memory of the on-board computer.
How he drives
Let's start with the weight of the motorcycle - it is 246 kg. Not much for an electric model. But for a tourenduro this is too much. While the bike is moving on the asphalt, the weight is not felt. But once you go off-road, it immediately becomes clear that the ZERO DSR/X places increased demands on the rider's skill.

However, thanks to the low center of gravity, the motorcycle turned out to be controllable. The main thing is not to let the rear wheel skid off-road. Otherwise, it will fall and lifting the electric bike will not be easy.
Let us recall that the tourenduro was developed on the basis of the conventional DSR. The suspensions on the last bike were not suitable for off-road use. ZERO DSR/X was equipped with a new Showa front fork with a number of adjustments and a stroke of 188 mm. Not so much for a full-fledged enduro, but in any case better than before.
The rear suspension has also been changed. There is a new shock absorber from Showa with adjustable spring stiffness.
The first thing that surprises you when riding the ZERO DSR/X is the silence. The engine is electric, so there is no roar or rumble of the motor. It is possible that some people will like this, but experienced motorcyclists are unlikely to be pleased with this feature.
The rear wheel drive is belt driven. A strange solution for enduro - the chain is definitely more reliable in off-road conditions. But the manufacturer decided that such a transmission is quieter. They promise that the belt on the new ZERO DSR/X is 2,5 times stronger than the old version of the electric motorcycle.

There is one interesting feature of the battery. It can be charged to 110%. This was done specifically to extend the resource. Filling the battery to 100% according to the indicators, in fact it is only 90%.
To summarize, it can be noted that ZERO DSR/X is more of a fashion motorcycle. It is not worth considering it as a full-fledged tourenduro. It is unlikely that you will be able to find even an ordinary outlet in the steppes of Mongolia, not to mention a charging station.
But one thing is clear - electric bikes are developing and turning from “toys” into full-fledged equipment. All that remains is to come up with quick-detachable batteries for them that will be compact, but at the same time powerful. Then, instead of cans of gasoline, you can carry them.
