When talking about the parameters of an internal combustion engine, most people mean its power and cylinder volume, which can change. But what if we adjust the number of cycles: as is known, there are four of them in modern automobile units. Enthusiasts in a video from the Garage 54 channel decided to make a “revolution” and make eight strokes in the internal combustion engine!
This means that the piston will “rest” twice as often, therefore, the engine resource will increase and fuel consumption will decrease. To achieve this, the gear on the camshaft was replaced. Now instead of eleven teeth it has forty-four. What will we get? During operation, at some moments the pistons and other engine elements will be completely unloaded: there is no intake, no exhaust, no ignition.
Everything was assembled and installed: to better see the process, the new camshaft gear was brought forward. Starting from the starter does not work: to start the engine, the crankshaft needs to be rotated 2 times more often! Well, let's try with the “good old” “pusher”. We drag the car on a cable: turn on the highest gear, then lower. But alas! Gasoline is spewing out of the carburetor, the car will not start - something is wrong.
